Chapter 29
I touched my throat and even coughed a few times for effect.
“You don’t know how to take care of yourself. Look how thin your face has gotten. Is Rowan not treating you well?”
Mother’s hand gently touched my face.
Mother daughter intuition–no matter how I tried to hide it, she could always sense something was off.
I quickly changed the subject, chatting about other things. I didn’t want to tell my parents about the divorce yet–I planned to wait until everything was settled before telling them, to avoid having them worry and feel sad along with me now.
After dinner at home, I changed clothes and said I was meeting friends, and would be back later.
In the elevator, I put on a hat and mask, carefully avoiding sight lines, successfully slipping out of the complex under the watchers‘ noses.
When I arrived at Moonlight, it wasn’t yet 7 PM.
The Mercer family driver was already waiting for me. Seeing me arrive, he politely greeted me, then led me through winding corridors, finally stopping at a tea room door and pushing it open for me.
I walked in.
The entire tea room was filled with sandalwood incense, the air mixed with jasmine and oolong tea fragrance.
Mrs. Mercer wore a haute couture gown, sitting with perfect posture, a faint smile on her face.
“Sit.” She lifted her chin, commanding like a queen.
I wasn’t planning to play games with her. As soon as I sat down, I got straight to

She picked up her teacup and spoke leisurely: “What’s the rush? Have some tea first, let’s chat slowly.”
I raised an eyebrow, studying the cup of tea carefully, and said softly: “This isn’t poisoned, is it?”
She snorted lightly
