Asher’s POV
Kylie and I weren’t right for each other.
I tried really hard to love her. but it didn’t work out. There was no
sparkle between us, no real connection. When I kissed Kylie, I
never felt the mind–blowing pleasure like I did with Violet. I
guessed you couldn’t lie to the Moon Goddess.
Now that I thought back about it, I should have never married
Kylie. But back then I was so disappointed to learn that Violet
wasn’t my mate and the whole puck was pushing me to choose a
Luna, so I went for the first person they recommended to me.
Horrible idea.
Now I knew the truth.
My true mate was right beside me all along and I didn’t know
about it.
I hated her so much. So I didn’t do anything when Kylie slapped her. A part of me agreed that she needed to be punished for what
she did.
But then I saw her eyes rolled to the back, and she dropped to the
ground right in front of me. My heart jumped up to my throat.
Before I even realized what I was doing, I had shoved Kylie aside
and rushed to catch Violet.
I might hate her. But I couldn’t afford to lose her.
My wolf and I wanted our mate too badly.
“Take her to the hospital!” Jayden cried urgently.
I carried her in my arms and dashed to the door. Then I started running as fast as I could down the hallway. There was only one thought in my mind: I couldn’t let anything happen to her.
The hospital did a thorough examination on Violet. And since Kylie wasn’t feeling well as well, she was checked by a doctor as
well.
I paced back and forth outside of the doctor’s office, my heart full
of worries.
Why did Violet pass out? She seemed very healthy earlier.
Did she have any diseases that I didn’t know about?
Did she have other secrets kept from me?
I clenched my fist in frustration. That woman was driving me
crazy! Sometimes I just wanted to shake her body again and again
till she spilled out all her secrets.
The office’s door opened up. The doctor and the seer walked out
together.
I rushed to them immediately, her mom and Jayden on my heel.
“How is she?” I asked.
The doctor and the seer exchanged a look and the seer said,
“Violet is stabilized now. But I must say this: her situation will
only get worse from now on.”
“And Kylie? Is she going to be alright?” her mom asked urgently.
I frowned upon her interruption. Even I could tell which
daughter was her favorite–sometimes it was too much.
The seer gave her a nod, “Kylie’s situation is slightly better. But
the twins are sick because of the same reason–they are with the
wrong person.”
My heart skipped a beat, “What do you mean?”
“Violet lost her wolf because she hid her scent and got around the
matebond. You couldn’t do that. It was unnatural. It might work
at first, but the cost came at you later. If she kept up like this, one
day the existing matebond will kill her completely. It is like a
chronic poison.”
I held my breath involuntarily.
This was the first time I learnt that Violet had lost her wolf. No wonder her scent was so light.
And then I became even angrier: She paid such a steep price just to get rid of me. Did she really hate me that much?!
I wanted to get in there and dragged her up and forced her to answer this question right now.
The seer went on saying, “The same goes with Kylie. She isn’t your mate but still married you. The matebond will murder her
as well.”
“Nothing will happen to them,” I said to the seer firmly. “Tell me
what to do.”
“A decision must be made. Either you accept Violet as your mate
and leave Kylie, or you rejected Violet completely. It is the only
way.””
My heart started racing at her words.
A part of me felt relieved. Kylie and I had been struggling with
our marriage for a long time. Both of us felt that there was
something wrong but didn’t have the right timing to end it.
Now there was a chance for me to bring everything back to the right track.
Maybe it was time for me to go back to the right person-
“NO!!!”
A shrill scream came from our back.
Kylie had come out to the hallway and heard what the seer said.
She clenched her chest staring at me, tears welling up in her big, horror–struck eyes.
“No Asher.you can’t leave me.you can’t!” she burst out crying, rushing to grab my hands. “Look at me now! I’m sick and pale like
a ghost. I sacrificed everything for our marriage! Please, you can’t leave me now.I need you. I really need you!!!”
I tried to talk some sense into her, “You will be healthy again once
we end this-”
“NO!! I won’t!” she screamed, pulling her hairs hysterically. “I will
die. I can feel it already. You will kill me if you leave me. Please
Asher.I can’t take this.I love you so much. No one will love you
like I do, not even Violet.”
Her mom hugged her, crying along with her, “My poor baby!
Alpha Asher, please I’m begging you! Kylie can’t handle you
leaving her. Don’t do this to my daughter!”
I stared at Kylie, the woman who was my wife for 7 years. And I
could tell that she really did love me.
Yet sadly, I felt nothing.
The Moon Goddess made a decision and none of us could ignore
that. Like the seer said, forced love was unnatural. I had feelings
for Violet and not Kylie. It was the truth.
I was about to tell Kylie sorry, and she shouldn’t waste her time
on me. But before I did, a mindlink interrupted me.
“The rogues were attacking our east side! Alpha Asher, we need
you right now!”
I quickly looked up to Jayden and exchanged a look with him. He
must have received the same message.
“To the west. NOW!” I growled and rushed outside with Jayden.
As much as I wanted to wait for Violet to wake up, I couldn’t. The
rogue’s attack was fatal. It must be dealt with at once.
We shifted into our wolves on the way and ran at our full speed.
The timing of this attack was strange. We didn’t receive any
warning from our guards at the border. The rogues must have
been planning on this for a long time.
By the time Jayden and I reached the battlefield, there was
already a scramble of people fighting.
I let out a long howl and jumped at one of the rogues near me.
The I felt a sharp pain shotting through me.
I just lost someone in my pack!
My Gamma Patrick. He died in this battle.
The pain was so strong that it made my wolf groan. But it was
even worse for Patrick’s mate Elena. Her desperate cry echoed in
the battlefield. She lost her mate today.
