Violet’s POV
I slowly opened my eyes. I was lying in bed in a strange room. The smell of disinfectant told me that I was in a hospital.
The pain hit me like a wave once I woke up. I had been having this pain ever since that position hid my scent and my wolf disappeared. Sometimes it was so bad at night that I couldn’t sleep.
But this one was by far the worst one that I had got–I fainted
right on the spot.
I groaned in bed while taking in small breathes, trying to ease the pain. But it didn’t work. If I still had my wolf, it would cure all my
injures and sickness. But I lost her to the potion. So I was on
myself right now.
Then an enticing smell floated into my nostrils.
It was an awesome, earthy smell mixed with a hint of pine tree. It
was so soothing. I could feel my pain lighten up almost
immediately.
I couldn’t help but take another big inhale and turned my stiff
head, looking for the source of that smell.
Then I saw him.
Asher was lying on the same bed with me, soundly asleep. The
bed was too small for a huge guy like him, so he was basically
huddled on the bed. His left arm was underneath my neck like a
pillow, and his right arm was on my belly.
He was hugging me in his sleep.
I stared at his face. He looked so peaceful right now. But the last
time I saw him, his face was full of anger, disappointment, and
hatred.
I knew Asher hated me. He had a reason to be.
I ran away for 5 years and left a huge mess behind. The
matebond still existed between us, which meant that Asher
couldn’t live in peace with his Luna because he hadn’t rejected me
yet.
I caused Asher’s pain. And I was the reason Kylie was sick. I
guessed my parents didn’t think that far when they made that
decision.
I quietly snuck deeper into his arms and rested my head on his
chest.
This moment felt stolen. Who knew what would happen when
he woke up? He might decide to reject me right away. So this was
the last chance I got with him.
His skin was burning. I couldn’t help but placed my lips on his
neck, feeling the throbbing vein underneath the skin.
His scent got stronger, invading my senses. I breathed faster,
Jopening my mouth like I was thirsty. I couldn’t resist the
temptation–I wanted to get closer to him. Closer.
My need had never been stronger. I guessed it was his scent that
made me horny. I squeezed my legs together but that still wasn’t
enough to kill the void that I felt.
The right hand that he kept on my belly traveled downward. I
gasped and realized that he was awake already.
“Asher.” I breathed, half–moaning.
His hand was on my upper thigh, slipping into my panties. Then
he would find out that I was drenching wet already.
I called his name again, begging. He lowered his head and caught
my lips hungrily. Maybe because he didn’t want to hear my
voice.
He pushed my underwear aside. With a swift and hard move, he
thrust his finger into me.
I gasped, my body bouncing at this surprised finger fuck. He used
his legs to separate my legs, keeping them wide so that it was
easier for him to move his finger.
“You are a virgin,” he whispered into my ears.
I panted. I couldn’t say a full sentence. I couldn’t think straight. My mind was clouded by pleasure.
He growled deeply and added another finger. Then he picked up
the pace, fucking me with his middle and index finger.
I moaned and groaned, my body twitching as this sweet pleasure
tortured me. The pleasure escalated. I was pushed closer and
closer to the edge.
Then I came, hard and fast on his fingers. The orgasm was so
strong that I felt like I was shocked by thunder.
Quietly, he pulled his finger out and lay down by my side. He
wasn’t even looking at me.
I was a bit disappointed. I had felt his throbbing bulge when he
fingered me earlier. But he chose not to release himself on me.
Maybe because he didn’t think I was worth it, or maybe because
he had already decided to reject me.
Whatever it was, I was not in the position to complain. I was happy enough that I had my first orgasm with him. What else
could I ask for.
He was gazing up at the ceiling, deep in his own thoughts. I just
realized that there were dark circles underneath his eyes. He
looked exhausted.
“What’s on your mind?” I asked.
There was a long silence. Just when I thought he wouldn’t
answer, he spoke up, “Do you know what it was like to lose your
mate?”
“Of course I do.” I said lowly. “It is.a nightmare.“”
7 years, I endured that pain alone. At least Asher still had his
members by his side, and he even had Kylie. But I had no one to
turn to.
“I lost a member today,” he said lowly. “It was heartbreaking. I
couldn’t save him. Had to watch him die in front of me. But
nothing I felt came close to what his mate experienced. She
refused to leave his body. Maybe it was because the pain and
trauma, she started hurting herself, biting and tearing her own.
flesh off. It was.horrible.”
I shivered. Yeah, I could imagine that. When I just lost Asher, I
just wanted to smash my head against the wall to stop the
internal pain, but even that wasn’t much of a help.
He directed his gaze upon me, his eyes dark.
“Why weren’t you affected by our matebond?” he asked.
I bit my lips and felt my heart shattered by that question.
He thought losing him was easy? I just chose to endure the pain.
alone, but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t in pain. I never let the
others see my weakness, so it made people believe that I couldn’t
feel things.
I envied Kylie sometimes. She could easily let people realize how
vulnerable she was. It was a gift.
“You chose to give up our matebond willingly. So that must have
been easy for you,” he said in a half–sarcastic and half–accusatory
tone.
He didn’t know that my parents forced me into it. I begged him,
“I’ll tell you everything later. The truth. Please give me a chance
to explain.”
Yet he let out a sneer, “Don’t bother. I am so done with your
secrets and lie. I won’t believe a single thing that you say.”
“Asher please.”
“No explanation will make up to the 7 years you took from me. So
don’t even start, Violet.”
Chapter 10
Violet’s POV
Ever since we had that talk the other day, Asher had kept me in this hospital. I wasn’t allowed to check out because the doctor said that I hadn’t recovered yet. And he wouldn’t tell me how much longer I needed to stay.
So what was next? I kept wondering.
Asher made it clear that he wasn’t going to forgive me. I thought
he would reject me to end this suffering relationship, but he didn’t do that either. He couldn’t lock me here forever. Even I couldn’t understand what was on his mind right now.
Life here was very boring. The best I could do was to read a book or flip through TV channels. I wondered why Elena hadn’t visit me yet. It would be nice to have someone to talk to.
And then eventually, someone dropped by.
But it wasn’t the person I was hoping for.
Michael walked into the door with a strange look on his face. Maybe he was here to accuse me of hurting Kylie again, and that was the last thing I needed right now.
“You need to leave,” I warned him.
He came closer to my bedside, looking down at me.
“No seriously Michael, I’m not interested in another lecture from
you-”
“Sorry,” he said abruptly.
I rounded my eyes. His apology came too unexpected that I was
completely taken aback.
It took me a second to find my tongue back, “F–For what?”
“For everything!” there was guilt and pain in his eyes, “What I
said the other day at breakfast? God I was such a jerk. And all
those years I should have been there to help you and support
you, like what I did with Kylie, but I didn’t.I am so sorry.”
I was stunned. Michael had been very harsh with me since I came
back. Why made him change his mind?
“So you come here to apologize? Why today?” I asked, perplexed.
He frowned, gritting his teeth, “Somebody drove you away, didn’t
they? It wasn’t your choice to leave.”
Now I was truly surprised. I didn’t know how he figured this out.
“Tell me,” he sat down by my bed, locking eyes with me.
I hesitated. This was Michael. We were inseparable before I left
home 7 years ago. And frankly speaking, I was done keeping this secret for mom anymore.
“It’s mom and dad,” I said.
He let out a long, frustrated sigh, “Alright.Well, that’s what I
guessed as well.”
“Really? How did you know?”
“Mom had that strange look on her face ever since you came back, like she was afraid of something getting exposed. And she never reached out to you. At least Philip and I tried to get in
touch, but mom and dad never bothered. It was like they knew
why you left.”
That was very smart of him.
And it felt so good to have someone share my burden. Finally.
“And I shouldn’t leave without saying anything. Shouldn’t keep
you in the dark. I am sorry too,” I said.
He shrugged, “I guess I deserve your apology too. So truce?”
I giggled, “Deal.”
He beamed and moved onto my bed to sit side–by–side with me.
“What’s your plan from now on then? You can’t stay here.
forever. You want me to talk to Alpha Asher?” he offered.
I shook my head, suddenly feeling down, “He won’t forgive me. I
tried to explain to him the other day but he just stormed away. I
guess I have completely lost his trust.”
“Hey, he’ll come around.” he stroked my hair, “You guys have a
strong connection. I can feel it. You were apart for 5 years but
still found your way back to each other. He is the one.”
I let out a bitter laugh internally.
I know he is my one. I am just not sure if this is a two–way thing.
“Where is Elena anyway?” I asked Michael, “I tried to call her, but
nobody answered.”
“You didn’t know?”
A bad feeling crept onto me, “Know what?”
“Elena.” Michael gulped before continuing, “She.She lost her mate
Patrick during that rogue attack.”
I widened my eyes, staring at him in shock.
I couldn’t believe this–How is this possible?! Patrick is Asher’s
Gamma. He is a strong warrior. How did this happen?!!
No wonder Asher was in so much pain the other day when I
woke up. He talked about the feeling of losing your mate. I just
didn’t know he was talking about Elena and Patrick.
“Violet–Violet are you OK?!”
Michael’s urgent voice snapped me back to reality. Only then did
I realize that I was collapsed on the floor right now, my legs weak,
my body trembling.
“Where are you going! You need to get back to bed!” he ran to me,
trying to drag me back.
I shook him off. I grabbed his collar and cried, “Elena.where is
she? Please just let me see her. Please Michael, I’m begging you!”
I couldn’t imagine how much pain Elena was in right now. I
needed to be there for her. Like what she did for me when I lost
my mate.
“No you can’t leave here! Alpha Asher clearly said-”
Anger surged up in me as I growled, “I don’t fucking care what he
said! Let me go. I need to see Elena. Just let me out of here!”
“Calm down Violet.“”
But I wouldn’t listen. I just begged him again and again. The pain hit me again. I lost control of my emotion and body and passed out in Michael’s arms again.
When I woke up, I found myself lying in the hospital bed again. A
group of people were by myside this time: my parents, my brothers, Kylie.and Asher.
I blinked slowly. Suddenly, what happened before blacking out all came back to me.
“Elena!” I sucked in a sharp breath, crying out. “How’s she? I.I
need to say her.”
I tried to sit up. But Asher gently pushed me down.
“You need to rest,” he told me in a soft yet forceful tone.
I grabbed his hand, tears streaming down my face, “No, you don’t
get it.Elena is in a lot of pain right now. She needs me. I
understand her pain and trauma. Let me go see her.“”
Asher cupped my face, “I know you two are best friends. But now
isn’t a good time.”
Kylie suddenly let out a light snort. She crossed her arms and
leered at me, “Elena is in pain because she cares about her mates.
Do you really understand her feelings? Because I don’t see you
care about your mate.”
Asher’s body became stiff.
“Stop it, Kylie.” Philip hissed with a frown.
“Why should I? I said the truth! Violet didn’t care about anybody
and that’s why she stole my husband and made me this sick!”
Kylie started sobbing again, “Seriously Philip, I am your sister as
well. Can’t you see that I’m ill and in pain? I’m dying. It’s all her
fault!”
“Enough!” Asher snarled, “One more word and you are out of
here!”
Kylie shut up immediately. She had a mean expression on her
face just a moment ago, but now it was gone, replaced by an
innocent look. She fluttered her big eyes at Asher, tears welling
up again.
She would be a great actress if she wanted to.
But I didn’t have time for Kylie’s stupid show. I turned back to
Asher and begged him, “Just let me go.”
“Elena.is not well,” Asher said with a deep frown. “She is not
herself right now. She will hurt you.”
“No, she won’t. She is my best friend. I can help her,” I said with confidence.
But I didn’t know that I was so wrong at the time.
