Two Souls 44

Violet’s POV

Everyone was heartbroken over the death of the former Alpha

couple when I was back to the packhouse from the forest. The

entire pack seemed to be drowning in grief, but I couldn’t find

Asher anywhere. His ward was empty when I got there

I knew how much he loved our parents, how deeply their loss

must have affected him

And the more I thought about it, the more I regretted not being

by his side at that moment. Shit, why did I have to meet Isaac

today? He needed me. Yet I let him suffer alone. It tore at my

heart

Without hesitation, I made my way out of the packhouse again

chasing after him. I could still his scent, see his footprints on the

ground. He had moved into the forest

The air was cool, and the night was dark, the path ahead barely

visible as I stumbled over roots and rocks

My body was on the verge of giving out, exhaustion creeping

into every part of me

Just as I thought I might collapse, I heard voicesfaint but very

familiar. I forced myself to rush forward, and then I saw them

Asher and Isaac, sitting side by side

Asher!!!I cried, relief washing over me. I almost cried

Thank god, he wasn’t alone. There was someone there with

Asher, someone who could share his pain and help him carry

the burden

Isaac looked up first. A crocked smile tugged at his lips as he

saw me

Twice in one day, Luna Violet,he said, his tone carrying a hint

of amusement. And the pleasure is all mine.”

What do you mean twice a day?Asher looked confused

looking back and forth between me and Isaac, his eyes

narrowing slightly

I didn’t want Asher to know that I had gone behind his back to

see Isaac. So I shot Isaac a quick, pleading look, silently asking

him not to say anything more. Isaac shrugged

Asher turned back to me, realization slowly dawning on his

face

You came into the forest? Alone?!His voice was stern, his

brows furrowed. After I warned you how dangerous it is out

here?”

He sounded upset, and I could tell it wasn’t just worry. There

was frustration too, like he couldn’t believe I would be so

reckless

chapter 44

Don’t be mad. I’m fine aren’t I?I was nervous. I could never

handle Asher when he was in rage

What if something happen to you? I can’t afford losing anyone

in my life again. You should know that!”

I lowered my head, gazing at the ground, feeling guilty. Then

Isaac spoke up, his voice calm

Give her a break, brother. She did it for you. She was worried.”

I was surprised that Isaac would put up a good word for me. But

Asher didn’t seem to care. His eyes were still focused on me

dark and angry

I told you to stay safe,” he said, his voice almost a growl. When

will you ever start to listen to me?”

I bit my lip, frustrated. I understood, of course I did. But

couldn’t just sit by and do nothing while he was hurting. He

was too important to me

Isaac stood up, brushing the dirt off his pants, You two

lovebirds can find another time to finish this fight. But you

should really get moving now. No one can know we’ve made

amends, not yet. It’s not the right time.”

Asher nodded. He looked at Isaac, a new resolve in his eyes

You should come to the funeral. It would mean a lot to me.”

Isaac lapsed into silence, his expression unreadable. I could see

the tension in his shoulders, the hesitation

Then he let out an icy chuckle, If I do that, the King will think

you’ve made friends with the rogues, and consider you a threat

You don’t want that shit, brother.”

I don’t care!Asher snapped, I’m tired of being the royal

puppet. I want to do what’s right, and I want you there.”

Isaac looked at him for a long moment, then let out a sigh. You‘

Ill lose allies,he warned

Then I’ll lose them,Asher shrugged. It’s about time to make

some new friends. I am so done playing their politics.”

Isaac studied him for another long while, then finally nodded

Alright,” he said. I’ll be there. If that’s what you want.”

I smiled, joy bubbling inside of me. It was a step forward, a sign

that maybe things could start to heal, that maybe Asher was

finally letting go of the doubts he had about Isaac

I reached for Asher’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. He looked

at me, his expression softening

Let’s go,” he said quietly

We left the forest and went back to the packhouse. When we

were near the main entrance, I saw two figures waiting for us

Jayden and his mate Julia. Julia had Mia in her arms

You found him,” Jayden said, relief evident in his voice. He

looked at Asher, his eyes searching his face. Are you alright?”

Asher nodded, but I could tell he wasn’t really in the mood for

talking. He turned to Julia and took over Mia, who was fast

asleep in his arms. Carrying the child, he strode into the

packhouse, exhausted

Thanks for taking care of Mia.”

Not another word. But I need to ask. About the funeral.”

Jayden said, his voice low and urgent. Should we go ahead

with it? The neighboring packs, their Alphasthey’re ready to

launch an attack on the rogues as soon as the funeral’s over

They’re just waiting for Asher’s word.”

I gasped a little. Right after the funeral? Why was this

happening so soon

chapter 45

At most importantly, Isaac might very well be innocent as far

as we knew. We hadn’t even had the chance to prove it and the

war was already about to begin? Who pushed for it

And the answer was obviousAsher’s uncle
