Violet’s POV
We rushed back to our pack to bury my father. I should’ve felt
warm and excited to be home, but the reason we were back
here filled me with nothing but sorrow and pain.
Kylie and her mother were crying their eyes out. They looked
so heartbroken, but I couldn’t buy it for a second. I knew deep
down that the reason my father was dead was because of my
mother stealing his masculinity.
They didn’t deserve to be sad for him. Not after everything.
During the funeral, my brothers and Asher were all watching
me, like they thought I might faint or completely lose it.
Honestly, though, I was numb. I could scream, cry, and acting
hysterical like Kylie and mother, but none of that could bring
my father back.
I kept thinking about the few good memories I had with him,
those rare moments where he wasn’t the man he had become
in the end. I wished we had more of those memories. Now
everything was too late.
After the funeral, Kylie handed over a letter that my father left
for all of us. We all gathered around as Michael volunteered to
read it.
“Dear children,
Maybe at this point you all hate me so much that you don’t
even want to open this letter. But I still want to take this last
chance to explain something to you if not defending myself. I can’t do this in person. So I put it down to paper.
You all wonder about your mother. Here’s the truth: your real
mother didn’t abandon you. She left to fulfill a responsibility,
not to care for her children.”
Michael paused. There was a long silence. I could see the shock
on everyone’s faces.
“So that’s a selfless act,” Philip murmured.
I didn’t know how I felt about this. So mother left for a good
reason, but so what? It didn’t change the fact that she
abandoned her own children.
Michael sighed and read on:
Chapter 65
“To care for you, I brought another woman back home to be
your mother, so you wouldn’t grow up in a single–parent
family. But that choice was proven wrong at so many levels
later.
The woman I brought home was a monster. With her in this
house, there wasn’t a single day of peace and happiness. Before
marrying her, I asked her to raise all of my children as her own.
That was my only condition. She agreed without hesitation, but
never fulfilled my request. She screwed all of your lives for the
benefit of her own daughter. You have every right to hate that
snake.”
I glanced at Kylie. Her face was dark and sullen. It looked as
though she wanted to snatch the letter from Michael and tear it
into pieces. But with all my brothers here, she didn’t dare make
a single move.
Michael sneered looking at Kylie and continued:
“The chaotic life made me thinking actually. Life is never easy.
It is all about difficult but right decisions. Your mother made
that difficult but right decisions by choosing her duty over her
children. It wasn’t easy. And it came with consequence. But she
did it anyone. I have to say I respect her for that. Violet, I know
you are here, and that this is where you resemble her the most.
Chapter 65
When you gave up Asher for your sister, I know you are your
mother’s daughter.”
I felt a lump rise in my throat.
Father was right. I chose my duty to my sister and my family
over my love for Asher 7 years ago. But that was nothing like
what mother did. I’d never give up my children. No matter
what.
“Your mother had to put being Alpha first, which meant
putting her family second. I regret that. But this isn’t your
mother’s fault. One day, I hope you’ll all forgive her.”
There was more, of course. My father talked about Jayden,
telling him he’d make a great Alpha. He told Michael to keep his
emotions in check. He told Philip how kind he was and urged
him not to let anyone use him.
And then he got to me.
“Violet, I know I owe you more than anyone. I should never let
that woman steal your mate from you and give him to Kylie.
That’s the biggest mistake I have ever made. There’s no way I
can undo things no, but I know you’ll be alright. You always
have a way of getting through the darkness and coming out

stronger. I just hope you can find happiness, despite everything. And please, don’t let the poison from your stepmother taint
your life. Find your own happiness. That’s all I ever wanted for
you.
I love you all.
Your father.”
As the room went quiet, the weight of the letter seemed to
crush us all. Jayden was pale. Michael closed the letter slowly,
as if he was holding onto it for dear life. Philip’s eyes were
misty.
I swallowed hard, my feeling complicated.
Father didn’t even ask for my forgiveness. Was it because he
felt he didn’t deserve it? But if I was in his place…what would I
do? Would I make better choices than him?
I didn’t know. I wanted to tell him that I had forgiven him. But
there’s no chance.
Eventually, it was Kylie who broke the silence.
“Your mother is an Alpha?!”
