“Here’s what happened.” I lowered my voice and told Philip everything that happened last night.
He furrowed his brows, and after a long pause, he replied, “We need to tell Violet, and discuss this together.”
“No.“I shook my head.
Philip sighed, “Asher, she has a right to know. If this is
connected to the curse, she’s the one most affected.”
I clenched my jaw. The last thing I wanted was for Violet to worry. She was already carrying the weight of the pregnancy, and I knew how anxious she was about our child’s future. If she knew she had attacked me last night–sinking her teeth into me, drinking my blood–she’d be horrified.
“She’s already dealing with enough. I won’t add to her burden. Remember, she is pregnant.”
Philip exhaled heavily but didn’t push further. “Then what’s the

I ran a hand through my hair, “I have a feeling this is connected
to the curse,” I admitted. “The craving for blood, the way her
body is changing. It’s not normal. I need answers, and until
then, no one can know what happened last night. I can’t risk
anyone seeing her like that.“”
“Gamma Simon is still investigating the former Queen’s
accomplices, but we haven’t found anything yet,” Philip added
grimly.
I nodded. “Then we keep looking. In the meantime, I will replace
all the servants guarding near the dormitory. No one who saw
anything unusual last night will remain in the palace.”
“Got it.” Philip frowned. “I will personally stay near your dormitory tonight.”
Later that day, Violet’s sharp gaze followed the new maids as
they moved through our chambers, setting down fresh flowers
and adjusting the curtains.
“Why are all the servants different today?” she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.
I had expected this. Violet wasn’t the type to overlook small

“The former Queen used a maid to infiltrate the palace, I had to
take precautions.” I said, keeping my voice even.
But clearly, she disagreed with my approach. She rebutted, “But
she’s already dead. Moreover, replacing the servants with new
ones could introduce unnecessary risks. You know, if someone
secretly places someone in the maid team.” She was right. But
this was still better than letting the previous servants spread
the news about the queen went mad.
“You’re right, but rest assured, this new batch of servants has
been personally selected by Philip and me, so there will be no
issues,” I said, pressing my hand on her shoulder, trying to
comfort her.
She nodded, “Alright.”
I exhaled quietly, relieved she didn’t press further. Just when I
thought I was temporarily safe, Mia came skipping into the
room, holding up something small in her hands.
“Mommy! Look what I made!” Mia beamed, waving a bundle of
colored fabric.
Violet smiled, reaching out to inspect it. “It’s a…uh, what exactly

Mia nodded enthusiastically. “But I need help finishing it! Will
you help me?”
I chuckled, leaning back against the bedpost. “Oh, dear, you
might have mistaken the person. Violet was terrible at crafts
when she was younger,” I teased.
Violet shot me a glare. “That’s not true.”
“Oh? I still remember the mess you had made. You would paint
your clothes more than the painting itself”
She crossed her arms. “That was different! The tools were old.”
Mia giggled. “Does that mean Mommy is bad at arts and crafts?”
Violet huffed, ruffling Mia’s hair. “I’ll help you, and prove you
both wrong.”
Violet took Mia to the study. I watched their backs as they
walked away, feeling a brief moment of relief. At least for now,

After nightfall, Philip stationed outside, keeping watch while I
stayed inside with Violet.
I wanted to ease her into sleep, to keep an eye on her in case she wandered off again. But as I turned, ready to coax her to bed,
she stepped out of the bathroom–she wore a delicate
nightgown, sheer in the right places, hugging her body in a way that made my throat dry. At this time, all thoughts of anything
else disappeared.
Violet tilted her head, “You know, we missed something last
night. Thanks to me, who slept early.”
I exhaled sharply, unable to resist Violet’s seductiveness.
She walked toward me slowly, each step deliberate. “I never got
to properly enjoy our wedding night,” she murmured, standing
between my legs as I sat on the bed. “I think it’s time we fix

Her fingers traced along my jaw before she kissed me, soft at

“What’s wrong?” Violet murmured, gently touching my lips,
clearly irritated by my distraction.
I snapped back to reality, not wanting her to worry. “Oh, darling, I just don’t want to rush it.” I placed my hand firmly on her thigh, holding it tightly. “We’ve prepared for this moment,
and I don’t want it to be hasty.”
Without giving her a chance to speak again, I kissed her once
