- 1.
I looked at my parents, who were yelling at
- me.
I was calm. I didn’t feel anything.
When you’ve been let down for so long, you
don’t expect anything anymore.
I took the evidence I had prepared and gave it
to the police.
I had my official Stanford acceptance letter,
downloaded right from the university’s
website. I also had video footage of my
parents burning my first acceptance letter.
“I got accepted into Stanford. My sister,
Ashley, has mental health issues. She has
episodes and hallucinates, which has caused
a lot of trouble. I apologize for disrupting the
start of the school year.”
I bowed to everyone.
The police looked at my evidence and
nodded. “It’s yours, young lady. Don’t worry.”
The people who were watching started
whispering to each other.
“So, the younger sister is the one who
actually got into Stanford?”
“Damn, that’s rough. She’s been stuck with a
crazy person. She didn’t do anything wrong,
but she’s been accused of stealing…”
“Her parents only care about Ashley. It’s not
fair!”
“Ashley needs to be in a mental hospital!
She’s a danger to herself and others!”
Ashley couldn’t handle the judging looks.
She rolled her eyes and passed out.
