I turned around, my wolf eyes burning with frustration as I snapped, “Truman, I saved your life! Now you’re messing with my sleep? Do you think an Omega like me wouldn’t dare to kill you?” 

He stood there with his arms crossed, not even flinching. “Even if you dared to, I’d still stick around. 

Then, he got serious. “I’m only staying to make sure you can rest. If I leave and someone follows my scent back here, things could get a lot worse.” 

I looked at him, then at the door. Honestly, he wasn’t wrong. Still, I warned him, “You can stay, but behave yourself and stay in the living room. If not, I don’t care if assassins are outside–I’ll toss you out myself.”

I gave him one last glare. When I noticed an extra blanket tossed on the couch, I finally felt relieved enough to head into my bedroom. 

I’d just shut off the lights and gotten into bed when his scent hit me. I opened my eyes and spotted Truman by the door. 

“What now?” I sat up, already irritated. 

He walked toward the bed near the big window, explaining as he moved, “The couch is too small. Curling up on it will mess with my injuries. Since you’re already helping me out, how about letting me crash on your floor?” 

Before I could say anything, he was already sitting on the carpet, steadying himself on the edge of the bed. 

“Are you looking to die?” I threw the blanket off and glared at him warningly. 

But he raised his palm before I could finish, showing blood leaking through. With an innocent face, he said, “Look, I’m already bleeding. Can you watch me suffer on that couch all night?” 

I wanted to say yes. But somehow, the words didn’t come out. 

His wounds were serious this time. Otherwise, he would’ve healed quickly. Alphas like us usually bounced back fast. 

Eventually, I gave in. “Fine. But this is the last time I’m cutting you any slack. Don’t push it. 

“I’m a light sleeper. If you try anything funny, I’ll wake up and kill you on the spot.” 

Truman gave a little nod. “Ms. Carson, I’ll remember every word. I wouldn’t dare forget.” 

I rolled my eyes and let it go. I turned away from him, pulled the blanket over me, and shut my eyes. 

Still, I couldn’t relax. My ears stayed on high alert, listening for any sound behind me. 

Originally, I planned to let Hera/stand guard while I rested. But shockingly, she didn’t seem to think he was 

a threat. 

So, I had to stay awake myself, alert for anything amiss.

At first, he kept making soft noises, probably from the pain. But slowly, everything went quiet, and eventually, his breathing settled into a slow rhythm. 

After I was sure he was asleep, I finally relaxed and let myself fall asleep as well. 

Wrapped up in the blanket, I had no clue how long I was out when it suddenly felt like I’d slipped into a warm bath. Heat spread all over me. 

Morning light crept in as I slowly opened my eyes. 

The moment I was fully awake, I caught a strong, unfamiliar scent behind me. At the same time, I noticed a big arm draped over me. 

Without a second thought, I spun around and kicked the guy right off the bed before he even had a chance 

to react.

Hayley’s POV: 

Truman struggled to get up from the floor, looking at me helplessly. 

He clutched his injury, his face tight with pain, but he didn’t make a sound.

I could see him holding it all in. For a second, I felt bad and almost gave in. But soon, I became angry again. 

He was pushy and rude. I didn’t think he deserved any pity. 

I ignored how much he was hurting and headed out of the bedroom to get cleaned up. 

When I came back, Truman was already on the couch in the living room. 

“There’s nobody outside anymore. You should go now,” I said, not even trying to hide that I wanted him gone. 

Truman glanced up at me. “I ordered breakfast. How about we eat first before I head out?” 

“I’m not eating with you.” I folded my arms. “You’ve got two options–leave quietly, or I’ll toss you out myself. You’ve got one minute to pick.” 

He clicked his tongue in reluctance, like he was about to protest, but his phone buzzed in his pocket. He answered, listened for a few seconds, and said coolly, “Alright. I’ll be right there.” 

After ending the call, he let out a disappointed sigh and stared at me intensely. 

Something about the way he looked at me got under my skin. 

Whenever I was close to him, Hera felt so calm and at peace. 

I hated that I was thinking about his injury and even worried about him. Then, Benjamin, my destined mate, popped into my mind. 

I wanted to slap myself for letting Truman mess with my mind again. 

I couldn’t go soft on him anymore. 

“Time is ticking,” I urged impatiently. 

His expression dropped as he slowly got to his feet and dragged himself to the door. He looked co defeated. 

Right before leaving, he paused like he was about to speak, but I quickly shut him out.

After I heard his footsteps fade away, I dropped onto the couch and started thinking about what happened last night. I wondered if I’d crossed a line, like hugging Truman or something. 

But no matter how hard I tried to remember, nothing felt off or wrong. 

That meant I’d kept things in check. I hadn’t let Benjamin down. 

Thinking of him, I dialed his number. I missed him like crazy, especially now.
