Chapter 19
Scarlett suddenly gripped the contract tightly.
She pressed her lips together, glancing at Damian and saying quietly. “I won’t go.”
Damian looked at her once. “Hmm.”

If Damian refused, Nathaniel couldn’t force the issue, right?
Just as Scarlett relaxed, Damian said, “Tine. Take her.”
“What?” Scarlett’s eyes widened. “You’re just selling me out like that?”
Damian replied. “Your wish likely involves Nathaniel.”
Scarlett paused, looking at the watch covering Nathaniel’s scar. Her breathing grew heavy.
Not likely-definitely.
Though she couldn’t remember, she was absolutely certain her wish had something to do with Nathaniel.
But still…
Looking up, she saw Riley standing beside Nathaniel, and her heart ached slightly.
Whatever had happened in these three years, since Nathaniel now had Riley, why should she care about her wish from three years ago?
She clenched her hand. Riley also seemed surprised, but quickly recovered, smiling as she said, “Great. Before the exhibition starts, I’ll arrange for Miss Hart to join our company.”
After the meeting, Riley didn’t ride back with Damian, but left with Nathaniel.
In the car, the driver sat silently in the front passenger seat while Scarlett and Nathaniel occupied the back.
Scarlett could see Nathaniel’s handsome, detached profile from the corner of her eye. She lowered her head, her throat tightening.
The car was deathly silent until Nathaniel spoke flatly:
“This exhibition features a private collector’s series. There are deep blue and light blue diamond rings, but we can only display one. Which do you think we
should use?”
Scarlett hesitated, noting Riley’s silence in the front seat, and realized the question was for her.
She answered cautiously, “Shouldn’t this be company confidential? Should I know?”
Private diamond buyers in America were few; information leaks could allow competitors to get ahead, causing problems.
Nathaniel adjusted his watch. “Answer the question.”
Since the company’s CEO wasn’t concerned about security, Scarlett had no reason to worry on his behalf. She replied candidly, “For exhibition value, light blue diamonds approach fancy-colored quality better than deep blue, so light blue would be the logical choice. However…”
She paused, looking out the window. “The deep blue diamond’s intense luster under lighting resembles the deep ocean. When you look into it, it’s as if you’re being engulfed by deep blue waters-suffocating yet mysterious, creating an ambiance no other diamond can match. Plus…”
Her gaze grew distant as she suddenly remembered visiting an aquarium with Nathaniel long ago.
Nathaniel had looked up at the water above them, the blue light reflecting in his eyes like a diamond’s sparkle.
They say a lover’s eyes are the eighth ocean. In that moment, she had truly understood what it meant to drown in someone’s deep affection.
Scarlett smiled, coming back to herself. “But that’s just my amateur opinion. The choice ultimately depends on the piece’s intrinsic value.”
She turned to find Nathaniel staring directly at her, his deep gaze fixed on her eyes as if trying to see through to the soul within this body.

Scarlett froze. The next moment, Nathaniel grabbed her wrist, his lips pressed tightly together. “Say that again.”
Scarlett paused, then repeated. “I said the choice depends on the item’s intrinsic value. Ouch, let go…”
She pressed her lips together and yanked her hand free from Nathaniel’s grip, accidentally pulling off his watch in the process.
The next moment, she froze in place.
His wrist was covered in criss-crossing scars.
As if he had slashed it countless times.”
