Jane’s Story 1
My dad called me I was stationed at a top-secret unit-and told me to return to my hometown for an arranged
date.
–
The candidate was very well-suited in every aspect, not only outstanding in appearance but also a well-known local entrepreneur.
Before departure, my boss even specifically instructed Oceancrest Airways to keep my identity confidential.
I boarded the plane at the agreed time, found my seat, and was about to sit down when someone suddenly shoved me hard from behind.
Before I could fully register what was happening, this person flourished a thick wad of cash with pure arrogance.
“I want this seat. Take the money and get lost now.”
Suppressing my anger, I retorted, “This is my pre-booked seat. What gives you the right to kick me out?”
My question was met with utter disdain.
“What right?”
“The right comes from being Mr. Rockwell’s personal secretary. In Baycrest, even a bird flying in the sky has to bear the Rockwell name, got it?”
I froze for a few seconds, then took out my phone and dialed Samuel Rockwell’s number. He was my blind date.
“Someone at your company says the Rockwell family has… considerable influence in Baycrest. Is that true?”
