Chapter 10
Killian took me to a bar to celebrate.
Under the flashing lights and loud music, I felt genuinely good for the first time in forever.
The amber whiskey reflected his face.
“Told you that you’d nail it. I’m never wrong about people.”
I looked up at him through tipsy eyes, and for a second, I could swear there was something deeper in the way he was looking at me.
I was about to say something when this voice came from beside us.
“Hey, wanna dance?”
I turned to see this really hot guy standing there.
I was about to feel flattered when Killian stood up, blocking him.
“Sorry, man. She’s with me.”
The guy looked disappointed and walked away.
I couldn’t help but laugh at Killian.
“Damn, you’re possessive. You just can’t stand that I’m divorced and still got it, while you’re single and no girls are asking you to dance, huh?”
Killian was gorgeous and built – he should’ve been getting hit on left and right.
But he had this whole “stay away” vibe going on. A few women were checking him out from across the room, but none had the balls to approach.
Killian looked straight at me.
“Cressida, you don’t seriously think I’m only interested in you for business, do you?”
Before I could process what he’d said, he grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor.
He smelled amazing but my heart was pounding like crazy.
His deep voice came from above my head.
“Stop fidgeting. Just dance with me.”
He pulled me against his chest, and I couldn’t catch my breath.

Chapter 10
“Killian, you…”
I was about to ask him what the hell he meant.
Then someone yanked me away from him.
Silas looked murderous.
“Cressida, you’re unbelievable.”
“I knew something was up with you and Killian that day. It’s been what, a few days, and you’re already fucking him? Have you no shame…”
Before he could finish, I slapped him so hard his head snapped to the side.
He slowly turned back to me, looking stunned.
Then his eyes just looked… broken.
“Feel better now?”
“If not, you can slap the other side too.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Silas, when did you become so pathetic?”
He gave me this sad smile.
“Cressida, haven’t you made your point? Come home with me.”
“You’ve got nothing now. I’m worried about you being out here alone…”
Before I could respond, Killian let out this cold laugh.
“Mr. Vasker’s overthinking it. Drake Corp takes care of our employees – housing, car, everything’s covered. We don’t want our people working their asses off for years only to end up with nothing.”
The dig was so obvious that Silas’s face turned red.
“Killian, don’t think I don’t know what game you’re playing!”
Killian shrugged.
“What game? She’s single now. I’m going after her, fair and square. Got a problem with that?”
“Maybe you should worry about your own company instead. Word is Vasker Corp’s about to run out of cash.”
I was still reeling from that “pursuing her” comment when Killian suddenly grabbed my hand.
“Let’s go. Don’t waste time on this psycho.”

Chapter 10
Killian pulled me straight out of there.
The moment we stepped outside, the cool night air sobered me up fast.
Silas came running after us, his voice breaking.
“Cressida,I fucked up. Can you please give me another chance?”
I rubbed my throbbing temples and said coldly.
“We’re divorced, Silas. Stop stalking me.”
“Whether you want me back because of the company or because you actually give a shit – only you know. But I don’t care anymore.”
“That video was staged by Anya! She played me! I do love you!”
“She played you?” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Did she play you into fucking her too?”
“You can’t control your dick, and now you’re blaming everything on some woman. Silas, you’re pathetic.”
“Just leave me alone.”
I shook off his hand and got in the car.
The light died in his eyes.
In the rearview mirror, I could see him standing there like a statue until he disappeared from view.
