Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Suddenly, the closet door burst open.
1
Julian walked straight toward me, his face stone cold.
Emma clutched her back, panic in her voice. “Julian, if it won’t fasten, just leave it. There’s really no need to ask Ms. Diana for help. This isn’t appropriate.”
I froze, then understood.
The custom wedding dress was incredibly intricate, with dozens of tiny hidden clasps along the back.
since developing autism, Julian’s fingertips often trembled. He couldn’t manage such delicate work.
For years, I’d been the one fastening his buttons and adjusting his clothes.
So naturally, Julian turned to me for help.
I almost laughed out loud.
That was my wedding dress.
I looked up at him. “Julian, you want me to help Emma with her buttons, is that right?”
ulian frowned. He seemed extremely reluctant to speak to me but had no choice. He gave a low “Mm.”
My eyes burned. “What am I to you? Your maid?”
julian pressed his lips together.
His silence was answer enough.
I looked away toward the woman behind him. “And what about her? What is Emma to you?”
Something shifted in Julian’s expression.
He said quietly, “She… is someone who truly understands me.”
[wo weeks? Emma just happened to know some history and how to please men.
And he considered her his soulmate.
Ridiculous.
I stormed into the study and grabbed several history books, confronting him:
What about me, Julian? If I start studying history too, would you consider me your soulmate?”
Julian stared fixedly at the books in my hands, his voice almost obsessive. “Put them down. Put them down!”
Of course.
The study had always been forbidden to me.
Even though this luxury estate belonged to the Cross family. Even though I was Julian’s legal wife.
For seven years, I’d had no right to enter Julian’s study or touch a single book.
But Emma could come and go freely, browse his collection at will, even sprawl across his desk for their passionate encounters.
I gripped the books tighter. “Why can she come in here but I can’t?”
Julian lunged forward to snatch the books away, clutching them protectively like precious treasures.
Chapter 5
His voice was cold and full of disgust. “Get away! You’re dirty. Get out. Don’t contaminate…”
As he spoke, Julian’s emotions spiraled toward rage.
The warning signs of an episode.
Usually at this point, I’d force-feed him medication regardless of the consequences, letting him bite me as long as it calmed him down.
But today, I suddenly didn’t want to.
I watched coldly as Julian smashed cups, cutting his arms with the shards like a madman.
I remained unmoved.
Emma suddenly rushed in, her tone serious. “Ms. Diana, Julian’s condition is worsening. I need to treat him privately. Please leave!”
2
I laughed bitterly. “I’m his wife. Don’t I have the right to know as his guardian?”
Emma was momentarily speechless, focusing instead on soothing Julian’s agitation.
Just when I expected the usual forced medication routine, Emma suddenly embraced Julian and kissed him.
In that instant, the raging Julian went completely still.
His furious eyes gradually grew vacant, then began to calm.
Emma deepened the kiss, guiding his hands to her waist.
They intertwined intimately, pressed tightly together.
Julian didn’t resist or refuse.
Though he only passively accepted the kiss, I knew how much Julian despised intimate contact. For him not to fight back was a form of consent.
For me, it was like being slapped across the face.
For seven years, I’d endured countless wounds trying to calm him down.
Emma managed it with a single kiss.
What did that make my seven years worth?
I wasn’t worth one of Emma’s fingernails.
A phrase suddenly popped into my head-a match made in heaven.
They were truly compatible.
With Emma, even Julian’s illness seemed easier to treat.
The servant stood nearby in shock. “Ma’am, aren’t you going to stop them?”
Stop them?
What was the point?
I lowered my head and stepped back.
I even closed the study door for them.
As I released the handle, bitterness flooded my chest. I’d lost all will to fight.
What was left to demand?
I didn’t linger at the estate. I immediately contacted my lawyer to discuss divorce papers and instructed my assistant to begin preparations for relocating abroad.
