Chapter 6

Chapter 6

For years, Julian had been my greatest concern.

But now-

I was the person he needed least.

By the time I finished discussing divorce papers with my lawyer, it was already late at night.

I turned to look at the torrential rain pelting the car window.

Strangely, I felt calm.

For the first time, I didn’t feel the urge to rush home and care for Julian.

I gripped the steering wheel, staring at the traffic jam ahead.

Suddenly, the car behind me lurched forward-an inexperienced driver slammed into my rear bumper.

My entire body whipped forward violently.

Sharp, throbbing pain shot through my forehead.

I clutched my face in agony as warm blood trickled down from my hairline.

The other driver scrambled out of his car, eager to apologize.

Just as I pushed open my door, my phone suddenly rang.

Caller ID: Julian.

My eyes widened.

In seven years, this was Julian’s first time calling me!

What had happened? Or… had he finally come around? Was he reaching out to reconcile?

My heart pounded uncontrollably.

I reached for the phone with trembling hands.

But rain hit the screen… I accidentally declined the call.

The other driver asked with concern, “Ma’am, your head is bleeding. I’ll cover all medical expenses. Let me take you to the hospital?”

“No… no need.”

I pressed one hand against my forehead, fighting through the pain. “Just go. I’m fine.”

He looked confused, but I slammed the car door before he could respond.

I tried to steady myself, forcing my voice to sound less shaky.

Just as I was about to call back-Julian called again.

I stared at the screen, hardly daring to believe it.

My pulse quickened as I immediately answered, my voice gentle: “Julian, what’s wrong? Is everything okay?”

His voice came through, hesitant and unfamiliar: “Where are you?”

“I’m on my way home. I’ll be there soon.”

Julian made a soft “mm” sound and said, “I’ll wait for you.”

Then he hung up.

My heart raced even faster.

1 carelessly wiped the blood from my face and stared anxiously at the gridlocked traffic, finally pulling over to the curb.

I glanced at my watch.

There wasn’t enough time.

Without hesitation, I spotted a Lime bike on the street corner, scanned the code, and pedaled out into the downpour.

Rain constantly washed over the wound on my forehead, causing excruciating pain.

But I barely felt it.

Only one thought filled my mind: Julian was waiting for me at home.

That thought sent warmth flooding through my entire body.

When I finally reached the estate gates, security refused to let the shared bike through.

So I dismounted and walked.

I was soaked to the bone, exhausted, taking one step at a time toward the house.

But my face wore a smile of anticipation.

Until I swiped my fingerprint, pushed open the door, and saw Julian in the living room-my smile froze.

Emma was there too.

She still wore that wedding dress, leaning against Julian’s side.

she spoke with surprise: “Ms. Diana, where have you been? Why are you so dirty?”

I blinked.

The wound on my forehead suddenly throbbed with renewed pain.

tried to ignore her presence and smiled at Julian: “You called earlier-what did you want to tell me?”

‘Mm.”

ulian stood up, his eyes indifferent. “She’s staying here. We don’t have enough rooms. Make arrangements.”
