Chapter 8
I was truly exhausted.
I couldn’t hold on any longer.
After cleaning the wound and receiving three stitches, I refused anesthesia and lay conscious on the hospital bed receiving IV fluids.
This time. I didn’t stare at the surveillance footage on my phone like some obsessed stalker.
The moment I decided to give up, I lost all curiosity about Julian and Emma’s affairs.
Perhaps they were now tangled together on the bed that should have been ours.
Or maybe they were simply cuddling, analyzing history books, whispering sweet nothings.
But either way-
It was no longer my concern.
Suddenly, a new email popped up on my phone-from my lawyer.
Ms. Diana, the revised divorce agreement has been sent to your email. If you have no objections, we can proceed with signing and filing with the court
tomorrow.
I replied: “Fine.”
Then I closed my eyes and fell into deep sleep.
The next day, my assistant called saying there was an issue with my foreign residency application-several key documents were missing.
Then I remembered-they were stored in the estate’s safe.
Without hesitation, I left the hospital and returned to the estate.
To my surprise, Emma wasn’t there.
Only Julian, scribbling notes on one of his historical manuscripts.
My eyes immediately caught it-his wedding ring was gone.
He and Emma had lived together for just one night.
And already the wedding ring could be carelessly discarded.
I smiled bitterly and asked, “Julian, where’s your wedding ring?”
His hand paused, and he explained, “Probably… on the nightstand.”
“Is it?”
I asked flatly.
Julian fell silent.
I remembered how seriously I used to treat that ring.
Once, Julian forgot it at a hotel during a business trip.
That night I drove there and searched the entire suite but couldn’t find it.
The hotel offered to compensate us. I refused.
It wasn’t about money-I needed that ring back.

Things escalated until police had to get involved.
Jullan stood beside me then, stiff and ashamed, watching hotel staff and officers move around us. He tried to pull me away more than once.
But I wouldn’t give in.
Back then, the thought of losing that ring turned me into a madwoman.
So now, Julian reflexively said, “I’ll… go upstairs and look for it.”
But this time, I said calmly, “Don’t bother.”
Julian frowned in confusion.
I didn’t want to explain further. I just went upstairs, opened the safe, and retrieved my documents.
Before leaving. I glanced at the ring on my finger.
Silver, not expensive.
Originally, to exercise Julian’s stiff hand muscles, I’d taken him to a workshop where we’d handcrafted them together.
Julian had been quite careless though.
His ring was a full size too big.
Even so, I’d treasured it.
“‘d wrapped string around it in loops to prevent it from falling off.
Looking at it now, the whole thing felt like a joke.
removed my wedding ring and threw it in the trash.
Downstairs, Julian’s gaze followed me.
stopped. “Something else?”
ulian pressed his lips together. His face looked somewhat stiff. After a pause, he said briefly, “My shirt.”
looked at the buttons on his shirt.
Only two were fastened, and even those were in the wrong holes.

‘d been doing it for seven years anyway. One last time wouldn’t hurt.
walked over and calmly helped Julian fix his clothes.
ulian watched me intently, his tense thoughts slightly relaxing.

ulian pushed my hands away, his tone returning to its former coldness. “That’s enough. You can go now.”
My hands froze in mid air.
No anger, no change in expression.
I just nodded and turned to leave.
