I had always been patient.
Before long, Gideon was captivated by me. We maintained an ambiguous relationship for ages without ever making it official.
Whenever Gideon was about to confess his feelings, I would stare blankly at his eyes, as if looking at someone else entirely.
The moment would end abruptly.
The words he wanted to say never found the right opportunity.
It wasn’t until college that I suddenly suggested we try dating-with the understanding that we could end it anytime if it didn’t feel right.
Gideon was overjoyed, like he’d won the lottery.
But he hid it well, pretending to be nonchalant as he agreed.
However, during our relationship, I was extremely distant, completely lacking any awareness of being Gideon’s girlfriend.
For instance, during dates, I’d stare at my phone absentmindedly.
Whenever new messages came in, my eyes would briefly light up, then I’d make excuses to leave.
Or when he tried to advance our relationship-holding hands or kissing-I’d skillfully withdraw, joking that hand-holding felt awkward.
Gideon thought this was just my personality.
No problem. As long as we loved each other, we could work through anything.
Until that day when I canceled our movie date, claiming the school had organized a lecture.

He wandered aimlessly around campus, planning to borrow some notes from Julian to help me study.
It was 7 PM on May 28th.
He stood near the men’s dormitory, watching helplessly as his girlfriend-me-behaved like a loyal dog in front of Julian, completely humiliated, without dignity
After our breakup, he blocked all news related to me and Julian.
However, being family and attending the same school, news Gideon didn’t want to hear inevitably reached his ears.
Like how Julian was kidnapped for two weeks because of me.
Like how Julian was diagnosed with autism.
Like how we got married.
The day he received the wedding invitation, Gideon sat on the London Underground, staring at the bride and groom’s names.
Just like now.
He looked at me in my bathrobe, expression shocked.
He entered the room, closed the door behind him, and said calmly, “Long time no see, Diana.”
1 froze for only a moment before quickly recovering. I turned and sat calmly on the sofa.
The divorce papers lay conspicuously on the coffee table.
Gideon’s gaze lingered on them for a long time.
He pressed his lips together and asked, “What happened? Did my brother dump you again?”
I laughed, finding it absurd.

I spoke up: “Get if straight, Gideon. This time I dumped your brother.”
Gideon pressed his lips tightly together. After a long silence, he said dryly, “So… how about giving me another chance?”
