She wasn’t even dwelling on his past mistakes anymore and had even given him money. What more could he possibly want?
Jessica thought irritably.
The plane bound for Paris gradually took off.
She didn’t care whether Maxwell would follow, nor did she try to conceal her itinerary. With Maxwell’s resources, he would eventually find her anyway.
It didn’t matter–no matter how he apologized, she would never go back to him.
Upon arriving in Paris, Professor Smith was waiting with a male student to greet her.
Despite his silver hair, Professor Smith remained elegant and composed, exuding.extraordinary dignity.
The student beside him had cold, sharp features and defined contours. His dark eyes seemed bottomless, his expression blank as a precision machine.
Upon recognizing Jessica, Professor Smith warmly embraced her, taking her luggage and handing it to the young man.
“Jessica, it’s been too long. You’re as beautiful as ever.”
“This is Adrian Pierce, my most promising student. He’s extremely talented and capable, and will be participating in this project with
us.”
Jessica nodded to Adrian, extending her hand in self–introduction: “I’m Jessica Reid, Professor Smith’s friend.”
Adrian shook her hand briefly before immediately withdrawing, acknowledging her with a curt nod.
Jessica wasn’t bothered by his coldness. Many talented individuals were often socially withdrawn–it was quite normal.
She chatted with Professor Smith, mostly listening to him speak, frequently mentioning Adrian.
Adrian responded minimally, his words sparse and economical.
Yet he dutifully carried both suitcases, following closely behind Jessica.
This entire scene was witnessed by Maxwell from a distance, piercing his eyes like daggers. His heart felt as if it were being sliced by knives, the pain sharp and dense, accompanied by a profound bitterness.
How could another man be by Jessica’s side?
His hands clenched into fists at his sides, knuckles cracking audibly.
Maxwell’s eyes reddened with fury as rage surged through him. Unable to control himself, he charged toward Adrian.
Thud!
His fist connected violently with Adrian’s face.
Almost instantly, a clear red mark appeared on Adrian’s pale skin, already turning purplish–blue.
Jessica stared at Maxwell in disbelief, her voice sharp: “Maxwell! What do you think you’re doing?!”
She then turned anxiously to Adrian, gently cradling his face to examine the injury, her expression full of concern.

Adnan swkwardly evented his gare, instinctively touching his impeed check with his rengas, the tips of his ears reddening slightly.
“It’s bothing, he muttered, pulling away from her touch.
When no one else reacted, he returned Maxwell’s punch with equal force, coldly stating: “Returning the favor.”
Maxwell’s heart sting with pain. He casually wiped blood from the corner of his mouth, gripping Jessica’s arm with a dark expression: “Come with me!
She frowned, impatiently shaking off his hand.
“Maxwell, when will you stop this madness? We’re done. I’m not going anywhere with you. You’ve already ruined my life once–are you trying to destroy it again?”
Hearing this. Maxwell nearly laughed from anger.
Jessica, what exactly are you saying? Being with me and then divorcing me counts as me ruining your life?”
“We were so in love once. It was just a misunderstanding, and now that it’s cleared up, we can go back to how things were. We can live happily together again. Isn’t that better?”
Slap!
Jessica unhesitatingly struck him across the face, her eyes filled with hatred.
“No, it’s not better at all. I don’t want to nearly die at your hands again because of someone or something.”
After saying this, she returned to Adrian and Professor Smith’s side, her eyes full of apology.
“I’m sorry for not handling some personal matters properly, making you witness this scene and involving you.”
