Chapter 2
Even though I didn’t end up with Caleb in my previous life, I knew him pretty well.
The reason he was so strange was because he lacked love.
His parents died when he was very young…
Even when they were alive, they constantly fought since their marriage was just a business arrangement with no real feelings involved.
Every time they argued, they’d threaten divorce and say they didn’t want to raise Caleb.
“You take Caleb with you–I don’t want him!”
Later, during one of their fights, Caleb’s parents got into a physical altercation right in front of him while he was eating spaghetti. His mother accidentally stabbed his father to death, then killed herself.
Caleb was only five years old at the time.
Watching the two bodies lying in pools of blood, he remained eerily calm.
After that, he lived with Sam.

But Sam had his own quirks, which definitely affected Caleb’s upbringing.
Before marriage, Caleb’s father used to party with Sam all the time, dating various women.
He barely spent time with Caleb, too busy enjoying himself or pursuing immortality.
Growing up in that environment until he was fifteen, it’s no wonder Caleb turned out so strange.
I decided to try winning him over with love–whether it worked or not, it was worth a shot.
If that didn’t work, I’d figure out another approach.
Caleb moved out right after turning fifteen.
Now, he glanced at me with those dark, brooding eyes, then looked at my hand tightly gripping his arm. Without another word, he continued walking forward.
He was incredibly tall–already six feet at just fifteen. I wasn’t even four foot three, so I could barely keep up with him.
“Caleb!” I said in my most adorable voice, “Slow down! I can’t keep up with you! Can you carry me, please?”
Caleb shot me an irritated look. “Shut up! If you keep whining,

I’ll throw you in the ocean to feed the sharks.”
I immediately burst into tears.

“Caleb’s being mean! I don’t want to feed the sharks. I’m scared it’ll hurt, waaah…”
I cried while burrowing into Caleb’s chest, wiping my tears and snot all over his clothes.
To some extent, I was testing Caleb’s patience with me.
If he only scolded me despite all this fuss, then I could relax.
“Shut up!” Caleb pointed at me. “If you cry one more time, I really will feed you to the sharks.”
I immediately closed my mouth, looking at him with teary eyes while sniffling.
Caleb gritted his teeth and closed his eyes—probably his first time dealing with someone this difficult, and he was completely fed up.
I watched him nervously, hoping he wouldn’t lose his temper so quickly.
I started wondering if I’d gone too far just now.
Suddenly, Caleb bent down.

I jumped in fright and quickly covered my bottom. “Caleb, don’t spank me!”
Without saying anything, Caleb’s expression grew complicated.
He frowned, then picked me up and strode forward.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
I wondered if I should push my luck a little further.
Wrapping my arms around Caleb’s neck, I said, “Caleb, you’re not mad at me anymore? So you won’t throw me in the ocean to feed the sharks? I promise I’ll be good from now on. Please don’t be angry with me, and don’t abandon me, okay? My sister doesn’t want me anymore. You’re all I have now…”
Caleb took a deep breath and looked at me with disgust, but seeing my pitiful expression, he eventually gave in.
“I won’t get rid of you right now, but if you don’t behave in the future, I’ll still throw you in the ocean to feed the sharks.”
I smiled and nuzzled my face against Caleb’s neck. “I knew you couldn’t bear to get rid of me. Caleb, you’re so nice.”
Caleb said, “Can you please shut up?”
I said, “Okay! I got it!”

Caleb muttered under his breath, “I really wish you were mute.”
I thought to myself, “Just how annoying is my talking to him?”
We arrived at Caleb’s place, and he settled me into a room before leaving.
Not only was he eccentric, but he was also quite antisocial, refusing to allow any servants to stay overnight.
He just left me, a little kid, here all alone when I couldn’t even take care of myself.
Fortunately, I wasn’t actually a real child.
After washing up, I walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
I searched around the room but couldn’t find any children’s clothes or even adult clothing.
Caleb really didn’t seem like someone who’d know how to care for a kid.
Just as I was about to go look for some clothes, Caleb’s deep voice suddenly rang out, startling me.
“What are you doing?”
I took a quiet deep breath to calm myself, then turned around

and said, “Caleb, I finished my bath, but I don’t have any clothes to wear.”
Caleb had been frowning ever since he saw me.
Now he looked even more irritated: “You’re such a hassle.”
I sat down with my back to Caleb and said pitifully, “Caleb, are you annoyed with me again? Why do you dislike me? What did I do wrong?”
I heard footsteps behind me, clear even on the carpet, showing just how agitated he was.
Soon, Caleb grabbed a short–sleeved T–shirt and tossed it to me, saying, “Put this on, go back to your room and sleep right now. Don’t come out again tonight.”
I put on the shirt, stood up and nodded at him, then waved and
Good night, Caleb.”
eb ignored me and turned to leave.
I took the clothes back to the bedroom and locked the door behind me.
Sitting on the bed, I breathed a small sigh of relief.
I’d made it through the first day safely.

But I still needed to stay alert, keeping my guard up even while sleeping.
