Liam’s eyes dropped, his expression sheepish.
“Oh, I may have mixed it up,”
“Why don’t you focus on making your life better instead of trying to make a fool of yourself?” Katie suggested, her tone biting.
Liam shuffled his feet. “You know, I found out you lost your pregnancy that day because of me. feel so stupid.”
Katie grimaced at the memory.
“So why did you have to bring up that sad news? You chose your mistress again. And killed our second child. End of story.”
“If I could turn back the hands of time, I would.”
“Well you can’t.”
He heaved a deep sigh. Then reached into his pocket and pulled out a pearl necklace.
Katie recognized it. Her mother’s necklace. The one thing left of her mother that she had.
‘You forgot this in the house before you packed,”
Oh, you actually got this one right,” she said sarcastically.
Liam’s eyes pleaded with hers. “May I wear it on you?”
She rolled her eyes. “Just give me back the necklace.”
He held onto it tighter. “Please, just let me put it on you,”
Katie was about to protest again when Lucian walked in suddenly. Thankfully.
He didn’t look pleased in the slightest.
What the hell is he doing here?”
iam’s expression turned smug. “I didn’t see your name imprinted on this land,”
Lucian’s face darkened. “Aren’t you supposed to be arrested?”
Liam stood his ground. “Back off, Lucian,”
Katie cut in with a sigh. “Liam, please just go home and don’t make trouble. Thank you for the necklace, but you can be on your way now.”
‘But Katie-,”
‘Please, I’m not in the mood for an exchange. Just go home, Liam, or go back to where you came from. Just go somewhere away from here.”
He hesistated. Then retreated.
“It’s not over, you know. I’m gonna be back, and Lucian should better watch out.”
Katie’s hand touched Lucian’s arm, her touch calming him down.
“It’s okay,” she said, her voice soft. “Let’s just go home.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Liam just came out of nowhere, and I was surprised to see him too. But at least I got my
mother’s necklace back, and that’s what matters.”
“We probably have to keep an eye on Liam so he doesn’t come close to you anymore,” he said, his voice low and protective.
Katie nodded, her expression serious.
But then Lucian’s face brightened, and he said, “You know what? How about we go to the cinema? You’ve been under so much stress lately, and you haven’t really had time to unwind.” Her heart warmed at that thought.
She grinned. “That doesn’t seem like a bad idea”
“Your favorite movie is actually coming out today, and we can go see it together.”
She and Liam never got to do fun stuff like this. Not ever.
He always claimed to be so busy with pack matters. And he didn’t have the time.
She scoffed at her previous foolishness.
More like Dakota.
Her face lit up. “Okay, no problem. That sounds like a plan,”
As they arrived at the cinema, Katie’s eyes grew wide. “You booked out the entire cinema just for ne?”
He gave a shrug.
You don’t have to show off your power and wealth every single time,” Katie said, her voice easing.
He raised a brow. “If I don’t flaunt it for you, who else would I flaunt it for?”
She bit her lip to hide her smile.
She felt happy. Content.
She snuggled into her seat, feeling Lucian’s arm wrap around her. As the movie started, she orgot all about her troubles and simply enjoyed the moment. With her mate.
She caught a glimpse of Lucian’s playful side.
He was being silly, throwing popcorn at her face and giggling like a child.
She retaliated, tossing a handful of popcorn back at him.
The cinema’s darkened room became a playground as they engaged in a popcorn fight.
Katie couldn’t remember the last time she’d had so much fun.
t had been years, maybe even since before Ruby was born.
As they laughed and tossed popcorn, Katie felt carefree and happy.
But then something interrupted their moment.
Lucian’s phone rang.
His expression turned serious as he answered the call.
“What is it?” he asked, his voice firm.
Katie watched as Lucian’s face darkened, his eyes widening in shock.
“What the heck? My mom was poisoned?”
Poison?
“I have to go,” he said, his voice low and serious as he ended the call. “There’s been a poisoning in the pack, and my mother is involved.”
She sprung to her feet. “Come on, let’s go right now!”
They quickly gathered their things and rushed out of the cinema.
