Katie and Lucian rushed back to the pack, their hearts racing with worry.
The healers greeted them with somber faces.
“It’s a very deadly poison,” one of the healers said, their voice grave. “We’ve been trying our best
to revive her, but we don’t think we’re strong enough.”
Lucian’s mom lay unconscious on the ground.
Her body limp. Still.
Lucian clenched his jaw.
Katie could spot the hint of fear but he appeared to be calm.
“Is my mom going to die?” he asked, sounding so far away. “Please, she’s all I have left.”
The healers exchanged sympathetic glances. “We’re trying our best, Alpha Lucian,” one of them said. “But we urge you to seek help outside, from others who may have the gift to heal her. This poison is unlike anything we’ve seen before, and it’s very deadly.”
‘What do you mean you can’t save her?” he demanded, his voice rising in desperation. “You’re the best healers in the whole city. You have to save her.”
‘We’re sorry, but we need someone with a special gift, one that’s uniquely blessed by the moon goddess. Only someone with that kind of power can heal her at this rate.”
Lucian’s eyes blazed with determination.
He would find someone with that gift. No matter what it took.
He would save his mom. Even if it meant searching the entire world.
Katie’s hands grasped Lucian’s arms, her voice calm and soothing. “Lucian, calm down. I’ll try to ind a healer for your mom.”
‘How are you going to do that?” he demanded, his voice tight with anxiety.
Katie let out a soft sigh. “I happen to know someone who’s connected with things like this,” she said. “I hope I’ll be able to get a response as soon as possible.”
Lucian scrubbed his face with a hand and let out a dejected sigh.
‘I have never seen her like this before. If it gets out of hand and anything happens to her…” he
trailed off.
Katie’s voice firmed. “Your going crazy over it isn’t going to solve any issue, Lucian. You need to calm down and keep a level head. You’re the Alpha of the pack, after all.”
He took a deep breath, his chest heaving. “I’m just worried about my mom,” he said, his voice cracking. “That’s why I’m panicked. I’ll be fine later.”
Katie nodded understandingly.
She quickly pulled out her phone. Dialed a number.
When the call connected, she spoke in a calm, measured tone.
“Richard, it’s Katie.”
Richard was the new Alpha of her old pack. Liam’s half brother.
They used to be friends back then. He was as nice to her as Liam’s grandfather.
Richard’s voice was warm on the other end of the line. “Katie, it’s been a while. I’m sorry about what my bastard brother did to you. You didn’t deserve any of that.”
Katie’s expression was neutral. “It’s okay, Richard. There’s no need to apologize now. I’m reaching out because I need help. My husband’s mom has been poisoned, and I need a unique
healer.”
His tone turned serious. “What kind of poison?”
Katie explained the situation, and Richard listened attentively. “I think I know someone who can help,” he said. “Let me make a call. I’ll get back to you ASAP.”
Katie nodded, even though Richard couldn’t see her. “Thank you so much. I appreciate it.”
You’re welcome.” he paused. “Oh, and grandfather’s birthday is in two days. Would you like to come?”
Katie hesitated, her mind racing with memories of her past. “I’m not really sure about that,” she
aid, her voice uncertain.
His tone turned persuasive. “I know coming back to the pack would bring back bad memories, ut grandfather really wants to apologize in person and see you privately,” he said. “Will you come to the party?”
‘atie sighed, weighing her options. “Okay, no problem,” she said finally. “I’ll try to come.”
Richard’s voice was relieved. “Great,” he said. “I’ll also try to get a healer to the party, so we can
onnect and see what we can do for your husband’s mom.”

As she hung up the phone, Lucian approached her, his eyes curious.
Where are you going?”
Katie took a deep breath. “I’m going to the party of my Liam’s grandfather. But I’m only going
ecause of the cure for your mom. I won’t leave until we find a cure for her.”
Lucian’s face lit up with gratitude.
Jnexpectedly, he wrapped his arms around her. Held her tight.
Thank you,” he whispered.
t was the first time they had hugged that way before. It felt nice. Comforting.
As he stroked her hair, Katie felt a surge of love and affection for him. Even in this moment, she was still falling for him.
