Chapter 3
The next day, before dawn broke, Ivor sent people to pick me up.
Perhaps he was afraid that I would have a change of heart during the divorce process.
The people who came were in a hurry. I didn’t even have time to eat breakfast.
Before I knew it, I was dragged and pulled into the car.
I thought I would have to wait for several hours outside the City Hall.
But instead, they brought me to the extramarital residence Ivor had set up.
My footsteps halted, and I instinctively resisted, refusing to go forward.
The door opened a crack, and the person inside pulled me in like a thief in the night.
She placed her index finger over her lips, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.
“Sir and Madam are still sleeping. You can just wait on the sofa now.”
With that, she left me alone and went into the kitchen.
I stood there for a long time, until my clenched fists slowly relaxed.
Only then did I make my way toward the sofa.
One glance, and I saw the wedding photos displayed on the TV cabinet.
Apart from that marriage certificate,
Ivor had given Kira everything he possibly could.
On the day he confessed everything to me, he had already taken wedding photos with her.
He said, “Kira, I’m sorry for putting you through this. I can’t give you the title right now, but for everything else, I’ll give you whatever you want.”
And that day, Kira asked him for a child.
Footsteps echoed on the staircase as a man descended in a disheveled bathrobe.
Large patches of his chest muscles were exposed,
dotted with blue and purple bruises.
My eyes suddenly ached terribly, and I turned my head away, closing them tightly.
“What are you doing here? Who let you in?”
There was a hint of anger in his tone.
Suddenly, my wrist was grasped firmly, and he pulled me,
heading straight for the door.
The nanny in the kitchen heard the commotion and rushed out, intercepting us.
“Sir, it was Madam who instructed her to come in. If you do this, Madam will be unhappy.”
The grip on my hand loosened, and Ivor ignored me, turning to enter the bathroom instead.
Behind me, the nanny whispered to someone else.
“It’s all because of her, refusing to divorce Sir, that prevents Sir and Madam from being together as a loving couple, and makes the little master the target of ridicule from outsiders.”
