Jeannette was stunned, the shock hitting her like a tidal wave.
“No! Please–please, don’t do this to me! I’m Lara’s mother! Don’t take away my womb, I’ll do anything else you ask! I can give you more children, carry on the Simmons family line–please!” Her sobs echoed off the sterile walls as she thrashed against the hands of the burly male nurses holding her down, but she was no match for their strength.
She watched in terror as the doctor pulled a syringe from his coat pocket. A thin stream of clear liquid arced from the tip, the needle inching closer to the vein pulsing in her neck.
With every ounce of strength she had left, Jeannette clawed at Eddy’s leg. “Please-”
But Eddy only kicked her away, sending her sprawling.
Despair crashed over her. Tears, bright and hot, poured from her bloodshot eyes as the nurses yanked her upright, pinning her in place. The doctor pressed the needle.
to her neck.
A scream ripped from her throat, echoing through the entire mansion, and her eyes rolled back as she collapsed.
The doctor glanced at the untouched needle, then looked at Eddy. “Mr. Simmons, she’s fainted from fright. The injection wasn’t necessary.
Eddy’s brows drew together, a shadow passing over his face. “Take her to the hospital.”
After a battery of tests at the hospital, Jeannette slowly regained consciousness.
“Mr. Simmons, she fainted from extreme shock, but there’s no lasting harm,” the doctor reported.
Still, Eddy’s expression remained stormy. “Check her heart.”
The doctor obliged, pressing his stethoscope to Jeannette’s chest. After a moment,
he nodded. “No issues. Miss Doyle is in excellent health.”
Eddy’s gaze lingered on Jeannette–dark, unreadable, as if weighing some
unfathomable decision.
Still trembling. Jeannette was gradually returning to herself. Hearing Eddy inqui about her health, she felt a faint warmth flicker in her heart.
Chapter 148
He does still care for me.
He must have lost his temper earlier because of something Blanche said. After all, he was still Blanche’s husband in name–he had to give her some sort of
explanation, so he’d only meant to frighten Jeannette.
Even if he wanted her gone, Loraine would never allow it.
After convincing herself, Jeannette gathered her courage and snuggled up to him. “Eddy, I know I was wrong. I swear, I won’t bother Blanche again. You can do whatever you want with me.
Her tone was soft, her fingertips tracing slow circles on his chest.
Eddy looked at her without a hint of emotion, his voice icy. “Whatever I want? Anything at all?”
Jeannette, thinking she’d piqued his interest, giggled. “Of course, anything.”
She took his hand and pressed it to her chest. “But you scared me so badly just now. Maybe you should comfort me.”
Eddy didn’t mover Instead, he called out, “Come in.”
The door opened and Kelvin stepped inside.
Jeannette’s hand fell limply away as she sat back, confusion and embarrassment flooding her face as she looked at Eddy.
A bodyguard entered as well, placing a marriage certificate on the nightstand.
“You’re legally married now,” Eddy said coolly, stepping back to sink into an armchair. He looked at Kelvin with a cold, commanding stare.
“Eddy, I swear I’ll never touch her,” Kelvin said quickly, bis voice anxious, unable to read Eddy’s intentions. “Whatever my mother said, just ignore it. She’s not in charge here.”
however,
Jeannette bit her lip, casting a look of pure loathing at Kelvin. Her eyes, softened with longing as she turned them back to Eddy. “I won’t let him lay a finger on me. My heart belongs to you, and so does my body. Only you.”
Eddy’s expression grew darker, his gaze swirling with a dangerous energy that seemed to coil around the two openly despising each other before him. “Tonight, you’ll consummate the marriage here.”
“What?” Jeannette thought she must have misheard.
21:46
Kelvin’s hands clenched at his sides. He’d grown up with Eddy and knew better than anyone that Eddy’s word was law.
“Sleep with her. From tonight onward, she’s your wife.” Eddy’s tone was indifferent, as if discussing the weather.
“No-!” Jeannette tumbled from the bed, crawling to Eddy’s feet. “I don’t want this! Eddy, why are you doing this to me? I belong to you. How could you make me be with Kelvin? How could you betray me like this?”
Eddy’s brows knitted in clear irritation.
Kelvin, seeing this, yanked Jeannette up and threw her back onto the bed, his hands. reaching for her collar.
Jeannette clung to her shirt, slapping Kelvin hard across the face. “You think you’re worthy of touching me?”
Kelvin froze. His eyes, fixed on Jeannette, held no trace of desire–only anger.
“In two days, you’ll be his wife in every sense. What’s stopping you?” Eddy’s voice was cold, unmoved.
“No, I don’t want Kelvin. I want you–only you!” Jeannette’s heart pounded with dread. If she truly slept with Kelvin, Eddy would never want her again.
“If you’d rather lose your womb, so be it,” Eddy said, not a trace of mercy in his eyes. Tears of humiliation spilled down Jeannette’s cheeks. Her voice shook with defeat. “I–I’ll do it.”
Kelvin moved toward her.
Soon, the hospital bed was shaking.
Jeannette wept in utter despair, unable to comprehend why Eddy was doing this–why he would give her away to his own friend.
Worse, he just sat there, watching with icy indifference, as if he were observing
strangers.
Had he ever truly cared about her at all?
No, it couldn’t be.
She remembered five years ago, when her family was struggling. She had to give up her dreams of gymnastics. She’d come to Novandria, hoping to make it as a streamer
and that’s when she met Ingrid–who eventually introduced her to Eddy.
