Chapter 193
“Minister, have you been to Capitol City before? You seem to know your way around so well,” Claire asked.
Blanche smiled and answered plainly, “I’ve visited a few times.”
“Come with me later to pick out a gift.”
“Are you visiting someone’s home?”
“Yes.”
Meanwhile, in the next private room-
Rebekah stared at Eddy, who’d barely touched his food. “Eddy, every place you suggested is a classic honeymoon spot, you know?”
“Have you been before…?”
“I went with my wife.” As soon as Eddy mentioned Blanche, a dull ache settled in his chest.
“Oh, I see…” Rebekah thought Eddy was wonderful in every way–except for his stubborn devotion to the woman who had abandoned him. She wondered when he’d finally move on.
Just then, Rebekah’s phone started buzzing. She glanced at the caller ID, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
“It’s my brother!” she exclaimed, hurrying out of the room to answer.
Rebekah had met Eddy through her mother, Loraine, who’d played matchmaker. Initially, Eddy hadn’t cared much–he never gave any woman a real chance. But when he learned that the McCarthy family was one of the most influential in Capitol City–and with his investigation into Pacifica Isle hitting a wall–he realized their connections might help. Expanding his business into Capitol City, he inevitably interacted with Rebekah.
Her brother, judging by the way everyone spoke about him, must hold a sig…..cant position.
Out in the hallway-
“Bro, since when did you become such a romantic? When did you get a wife? Mom and Dad are going to be over the moon!” Rebekah’s voice bubbled through the phone.
no
‘She’ll be coming by the house tonight. Don’t scare her off.”
“Oh my god, she’s not just your wife, she’s already expecting too? So when’s the wedding? You haven’t been home in years! She’s here in Capitol City–why arent you coming back with her? You’re serving your country, not vanishing off the face of the earth! Do you know how worried Mom and Dad have been?”
“There’s a security meeting here. Once it’s over, I’ll have a few days off to go home and help with the wedding plans.” His tone was cool and matter–of–fact, as if he were discussing his work schedule.
“What’s her name, anyway? You still haven’t told me.”
“Blanche Griffiths,” he replied flatly.
“Got it.” The name sounded oddly familiar to Rebekah, though she couldn’t quite place it.
Returning to the room, Rebekah announced, “My sister–in–law is coming to meet my parents and me tonight, so I won’t be able to take you sightseeing, Eddy.”
She grinned. “But honestly, the McCarthy Mansion is a landmark in itself.”
With her brother always away, her parents never stopped pressuring her about marriage–it drove her crazy. Now that her brother had suddenly reappeared with a fiancée, she could already imagine her parents doubling down on her own matchmaking schedule.
Her cheeks warmed. “Eddy, would you like to come over for dinner tonight?”
“You’re having guests. I wouldn’t want to intrude,” Eddy replied politely. The truth was, he didn’t want to get any closer to Rebekah–he just wanted to hear what Mr. Jordan knew about Pacifica Isle.
“Oh… then after lunch, come shopping with me?”
“Sure.”
Coincidentally, there was a shop nearby that his wife loved.
Her birthday was coming up. He wanted to buy a gift and surprise her when she got back.
After the meal, Eddy accompanied Rebekah into a vintage boutique.
“I’ll take this one–a dress in that size,” Rebekah told the clerk.
Suddenly, a familiar voice drifted over. “How about this hand–embroidered fan?

What do you think?”
Eddy’s head snapped up. Across the sprawling boutique, he spotted a figure in a white shirt and jeans–Blanche.
He rushed over almost instinctively, grabbing her hand. As she turned around, looking startled, the word escaped him without thinking: “Honey!”
