A Cheater 232

Chapter 232

“Ew-Mommy, that’s embarrassing! You kissed Daddy!”

Mamie’s little voice chimed out from the phone’s speaker.

Blanche’s cheeks flushed with warmth the instant she heard her daughter’s words.

She was still nestled in Ablett’s arms, her lips brushing the hollow of his throat. Realizing how compromising their position must look, she scrambled upright, trying to compose herself. “No, that’s not what happened…”

Ablett, behind her, replied as well, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly, though his tone remained calm and even. “No, it didn’t.”

He caught sight of the flush creeping up her ear and couldn’t help the amused curve of his lips.

“Daddy, Mommy-when are you coming home?”

Mamie was impossibly adorable, her wide eyes blinking as she giggled behind her tiny hands.

Blanche felt a wave of tension slip away. She smiled. “We’ll be back in a few days,

sweetheart.”

Ablett reached for Blanche’s wrist and gently pulled her to sit beside him.

“But where’s Daddy?” Mamie piped up, not spotting Ablett in the video frame.

Blanche angled the phone so Ablett’s face appeared on screen.

He leaned in, his lips brushing softly against the side of Blanche’s neck, his breath warm against her ear. Watching the flush deepen on her earlobe, he kept his composure and spoke to Mamie, “I’ll come home with your mom.”

Mamie’s face lit up at that, eyes sparkling with excitement. “Yay! I missed you!” Then, suddenly, she peered closer, her voice full of curiosity. “Daddy, why were you sneaking peeks at Mommy?”

Ablett’s lashes lifted just a bit, betraying nothing of his thoughts. He reached up and tucked a loose strand of Blanche’s hair behind her ear. “Her hair was in the way,” he replied.

His fingers were cool and lingered just long enough on her burning earlobe to send a shiver down Blanche’s spine.

She handed the phone to Ablett and turned slightly away, her face still burning.

But then, unbidden, Leda’s situation crept into her mind, cooling her mood instant She thought of how Eddy had always put on a tender front in public, while turning cruel and ugly behind closed doors. The memory left her chest tight and aching

Wounds that deep left scars you could feel in your bones. Whenever she saw Eddy her body would react on instinct, the memories surging up, making her feel sick.

And Ablett-maybe he wasn’t much better…

Blanche glanced at Ablett, who was chatting gently with Mamie, and wanted to ask him so many questions. But remembering what they actually were to each other, she knew she had no right. So she sat there quietly, her thoughts churning.

“Bye-bye, Mommy!”

“Bye-bye, sweetheart.”

Blanche took the phone back from Ablett. If she was honest, he was the perfect

boss.

As for his character…

Suddenly, Ablett spoke up. “This time, Leda saved me.”

“Hm?”

Blanche listened quietly.

“Carney wants me to marry Leda.”

Blanche looked at him, and an idea struck her-a way to both appease Leda and free herself from Ablett. “Director-General, I’m ready to end things anytime you

need.”

She didn’t hesitate in the slightest.

Ablett sighed inwardly. He didn’t answer immediately, just studied her for a long moment, as if making sure she truly meant it. Only then did he reply, “I can’t marry

her.”

“I don’t mind…” Blanche said, the word “divorce” almost slipping from he

Ablett rarely interrupted anyone-he was nothing if not well-mannered. But this woman had unsettled him in ways he wasn’t used to. “I don’t love her. I’ve never touched her, I can’t marry her,” he said, cutting her off.

Blanche’s eyes widened in surprise, uncertain whether to believe him.

Aclet’s gaze rested on her composed and steady “She and her brother drugged me

and ered to trap me in her bed es fd miss an assignment”

*She tried to hurt me, but this time, she saved me.”

“We’re even now”
