Chapter 233
Ablett watched Blanche in steady silence, calm and unhurried.
After a long moment, understanding dawned on Blanche’s face and she gave a resolute nod.
The Director-General had always been a selfish man; there was no way he’d have traveled all the way to Novandria simply to help her. But if Leda truly lost her ability to have children because of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, then whose fault was it? Ablett reached for Blanche’s wrist, helping her up before sweeping her effortlessly into his arms. “I’ll take you back.”
He moved so quickly that Blanche let out a startled gasp, her slender fingers instinctively.clutching the collar of his shirt. “That’s not necessary, Director-General.”
Ablett rarely denied her wishes, but today, a stubbornness surfaced. He had deliberately left her to walk those few steps alone earlier, and the sight had unsettled him. “It’s my duty as your husband to look after you.”
Husband?
The word cast a shadow in Blanche’s eyes. She didn’t protest, letting Ablett lay her gently on the king-sized bed before she finally whispered, “Thank you,
Director-General.”
She glanced up at him with a faint, teasing smile. “Tomorrow, you won’t have to trouble yourself carrying me.”
Ablett-nodded, his response soft. “Alright.”
He turned and closed the bedroom door behind him. Almost as soon as Blanche settled on the bed and closed her eyes, Eddy’s face loomed in her mind-vivid, inescapable. She could almost feel his feverish hand slide from her navel upward, his touch burning into her memory.
Her eyes flew open in shock, but she forced herself to calm down. In just a few days, she’d be back at headquarters, and everything would return to normal.
Meanwhile, in another villa across town, Eddy lay sprawled on his bed, sinking into the mattress. His mind was filled with images of Blanche-soft, delicate, curled in his arms. He shut his eyes, jaw clenched, hands digging into the mattress until the veins on his arms stood out.

The thought of Blanche, breathless and tender, nestled in Ablett’s arms at this very
moment…
A roar of frustration echoed through the empty house.
At a derelict factory on the outskirts, Carney arrived to find Kermit battered and broken by his own men. Impatient, Carney pressed the sole of his shoe to Kermit’s head. “You couldn’t even handle a single woman?”
“And now you’ve dragged me into your mess.”
“Mr. Harvey… please… that woman… she’s my sister…”
The mention of Leda lying in a hospital bed only fueled Carney’s anger. He was surrounded by incompetents.
“She’s also… the wife of Novandria’s richest man-Eddy,” Kermit stammered.
Carney’s dark eyes narrowed, his voice dropping to a menacing hiss. “Eddy’s wife?”
“Yes… Eddy’s been searching for her for three years… she has a son… she’s not worthy… not worthy…” Kermit’s words trailed off as he lost consciousness.
Carney shifted his shoe to Kermit’s hand, grinding it in until there was no response. “Patch him up. I want him talking.”
Eddy had been a guest at the Lopez mansion just yesterday.
“And now a twice-divorced woman dares to challenge my sister for Ablett?”
“No need to wait for a full recovery as long as he can talk.” Carney sneered, intrigued. “Tomorrow, prepare a little surprise for my dear brother-in-law.”
He called Wilhelmina Lopez, dropping a few somber words.
Wilhelmina was left uneasy, promising to visit Leda the next day.
The following morning, Wilhelmina decided it wouldn’t be proper for Ablett to go alone. Leda had saved Ablett’s life; with the Harvey family involved, who knew what trouble might arise? A knot of worry grew in her chest, so she insisted that Blanche come along as well.
“As his wife, it’s only right that you visit the woman who saved your husband’s life,” Wilhelmina said firmly.
Ablett wasn’t keen on, having Blanche interact with the Harvey family, but when she quietly agreed, he relented.
Blanche entered the hospital room arm in arm with Ablett. Inside, she saw not only

the gravely injured Kermit, but Eddy as well.
