Chapter 25
Throughout the questioning, Zina kept her lips pressed tight, holding back tears. A trace of panic flickered in her eyes.
Sophie, an officer, moved by a tug of sympathy, quietly poured her a mug of hot water.
“We’ve contacted your family.” the other officer said.
Sophie snorted in disgust. “Call that family? They should have cut ties ages ago.”

In the Sinclair mansion, Rosie murmured in a delicate, feeble voice, “I do wonder how Zina is faring. We did pick her a simple soul, but life’s bound to be hard for them. I know, I’ve been down that road myself.”
“Rosie, my dear, your heart is always too kind.” Avery declared heatedly, “The likes of her? A downright ungrateful wretch, who actually tried to harm us.”
“Once Zina’s taken away by David, things will settle into a good routine for us” Kevin said, “Then, about the company. matters, I need you to bring it up with Kyle a few more times.”
“Don’t you worry, Mom, Dad.” Rosie chirped, already pulling out her phone, “I’ll speak to him now. The company will be just fine.”
Yet in the very next instant, everything changed.
Without warning, police officers filled the room. “Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair, you are involved in a case of human trafficking. You’ll need to come with us immediately.” said the police chief, Luis Bennett.
Luis had a clean–cut, handsome face that looked to be in his early twenties, yet carried an air of authority that seemed at odds with his youth.
Kevin frowned at Luis’s police uniform, a thought flashing through his mind, ‘Police chief? So young? Must have some serious connections pulling the strings.
Before Kevin could even process what was happening, two officers were already beside him with a gesture toward the door.
Rosie shrieked, stumbling back. “You’ve got the wrong idea.”
Avery instantly stepped in front of Rosie, blocking the way. “Seriously, officers, there must be some mistake. This is…”
“It’s the Sinclair family, no mistake here.” Luis stated flatly, his sharp gaze landing squarely on Kevin, “Come with us now, Mr. Sinclair. Let’s not make this difficult.”
Kevin instantly plastered on a wide smile. “Absolutely, Officer. We’ll come right away. Must be some misunderstanding we can sort out. We’d really appreciate your understanding on this.”
As he spoke, Kevin moved closer to the officer beside him. Trying to be discreet, he slipped the Rolex off his wrist, intending to pass it to the officer.
But the officer jumped back a step or two and said firmly, “Let’s keep this professional.”

Chapter 25
A whirlwind of emotions churned inside Kevin. His mind was racing, and his face contorted with the strain.
Even while being bundled into the squad car, Kevin couldn’t figure out how did such a meticulously crafted plan go sideways.
‘Damn it! David, a useless idiot.‘ Kevin cursed internally, ‘I even told him exactly where Zina’s birthmark was. How could he still screw this up?”
It wasn’t until he reached the police station, the moment he actually laid eyes on David, that Kevin’s rage threatened to boil
over.
David couldn’t meet Kevin’s furious glare. Gone was his earlier arrogance, and now he sat with a hangdog look, utterly subdued.
David gestured towards the Sinclair family, “Officers, they’re all here now. Just ask them. They did take my money, promising their daughter would marry me. I paid them good money–60 thousand dollars, cold, hard cash.”
David fumed in his mind, ‘Chasing some skirts cost me my life savings and landed me in jail? Soon as I get out, I’ll be a damn laughingstock.‘
The more David thought about it, the hotter his anger burned. Finally, he snapped, yelling at Kevin, “You people are rotten to the core. No damn conscience at all. Curse you all.”
