The room spun.
“And you kept me hidden for two years… so you could–what? Warm her bed on the side?”
“Don’t be unfair,” he said. “You are my mate. I never denied that.”
“You denied my existence!” I shot back. “You wanted me for the bond, for duty, but not for love.”
He hesitated. “Irina, it’s complicated.”
“No, it’s simple.” My voice wavered. “You wanted a Luna with strength. You wanted fame, power- and I couldn’t give you that because I don’t shift.”
“I never said that.”

“Enough!” The voice came from behind. My father stepped forward, anger blazing in his eyes.
And then he slapped me.
My breath was knocked from my lungs as I dropped to the ground, flowers scattering like snow around me.
“She was never worthy of you,” he snarled, pointing at me. “We should’ve never brought her in from the wild. Look what she’s become.”
The words slapped harder than his hand.
Brought in.
Picked up.
Not their daughter.
Adopted.

“Dad!” Jenika cried, fake tears spilling from her eyes as she kneeled in front of me. “Please don’t be angry. She just didn’t understand. But this… Kyle and I… it’s real.”
She leaned close to my ear, and whispered, “A pathetic little thing like you will never be enough for someone like him.”
I didn’t flinch.
Not anymore.
Kyle stepped forward. “You’re still my mate, Irina. Nothing changes that. But she will be Luna. She’ll rule at my side.”
“And what will I be?” I asked softly. “Your convenience?”
“You’ll have everything else. Title. Wealth. Comfort.”
“But not love.”

Something twisted inside me. Something sharp and wild.
Everyone was watching now. Waiting for my
answer.
“Well,” I said, pulling myself to my feet, my voice calm now. “You can keep your title. Your fake promises. And your lies.”
Silence.
“I reject you, Kyle Becker, as my mate. From this moment forward, our bond is broken.”
Is this what it means to have a mate? Pain, hurt,
loneliness, heartbreak, coldnes
and emptiness?
What kind of cruel fate is this? I want to ask whoever made this bond, why my life has to be like this.
Why do I have to suffer so much, while the real adulterers enjoy their lives behind my back?

I looked up to see Casper, his eyes wide, filled with shock as he stared at my face.

“Step back,” I almost growled. Somehow, my voice had turned strong and rough.
Casper moved back, still staring at me.
“Go and ask your young alpha who he’s with. He’s fucking my so–called half–sister. If you go now, maybe you’ll see their beautiful moments or, hell, even enjoy it,” I spat angrily.
On any other day, I would’ve never cursed. Even bad words felt foreign on my tongue, but today, something inside me snapped.

“Irina, stop! Where are you going?” Casper shouted after me.
I snapped my head back and glared at him.
“I dare you to follow me,” I warned before finally stepping out of the Shadow Blades Pack territory.
The pack was located near a valley, with a deep forest on the left. No one from the pack dared to enter it.
They said it belonged to a powerful pack, and the Shadow Blades Pack never crossed its boundary.
To escape, I had to go into the forest. The moment I stepped in, I’d become a rogue, with no home, no family, no pack.

I saw the dark forest ahead. It was silent, as if I was stepping into a deadly quiet world.

I knew they’d try to find me since I was still useful
to them. But they wouldn’t catch me now.
The sun was setting, and darkness enveloped me as I entered the forest.
Faint light trickled through the tree branches, but my breath quickened, and my body felt like it was breaking.
I leaned on a tree, gasping. What was happening to me? As I slipped to the ground, the pain was unbearable.
Was I going to die here? Numbness took over, and my senses began to fade. I heard footsteps crunching leaves.
The sound was faint, coupled with unfamiliar scents.

“Someone’s here. She’s not from our territory,” a rough voice whispered.
“Maybe a rogue passing by,” another voice replied.
“But in such a state? Hard to believe,” the first voice said again.
“This is strange. Is it her first time?” the second voice wondered.
What were they talking about? I wanted to know but couldn’t move.
As darkness claimed me, I heard them decide not to leave me. I was lifted, my fate now in their hands.
Maybe they’d help, or maybe not.
