The Stillborn 19

The Stillborn 19

Chapter 8

But Tristan didn’t even glance at Bianca. His eyes locked on mine as he struggled to speak. “Eloise, I know I messed up. But we haven’t signed the marriage license yet. So, please, I’m begging you, save me. If you do, I promise I’ll marry you and make you the true lady of our family.”

Drake pulled me protectively into his arms, face darkening. “Tristan, I’m standing right here, and you still have the guts to lust after your aunt-in-law?”

Mr. Clark’s eyes turned red. He gritted his teeth and gave Drake a deep bow. “Drake, I’ve neve begged anyone in my life. But I’m begging you now, as your older brother, please divorce Eloise Let her marry Tristan instead. If she saves him, I promise I’ll never stand in your way again. I’ll even hand over the family headship to you.”

That was a generous offer, one that would’ve made anyone stop and think. But for me, it was fai too late.

Seeing that I seemed hesitant, Drake’s arm around me tightened slightly.

‘No chance,” he said firmly. “Why would I give my wife away to anyone else? I swore I’d only eve ove one woman in my life, and it’s her.”

Tristan looked at me, eyes full of desperate hope. “Eloise, can I talk to you alone?”

gave Drake a nod. Reluctantly, he followed the others outside and closed the door.

Now it was just me and Tristan in the room.

Tears ran freely down his face as he finally spoke. “I’m sorry. I regret everything. In our past life you risked everything to save me, and I treated you like trash. I was a terrible man. Eloise, the act that you came here today means you’re willing to help me, right?”

gave him a faint smile. “And why would I ever go soft on a man who tried to destroy me?” His eyes widened. A spark of realization lit up his face. “You… you’ve been reborn too, haven’t you? Eloise, I knew it! You won’t just let me die, right? We were husband and wife in our last life!”

let out a long sigh and replied, “Tristan, even if I wanted to save you, I can’t anymore.”

Just then, Mr. Clark rushed back into the room just in time to hear me.

‘What do you mean by that?!” he asked.

‘Look at her,” I said, pointing at Bianca. Then I finally spoke the truth I had carried for two ifetimes. “We, girls with curse-breaking blessing, aren’t allowed to sleep around. If we go against the ancestral rules, there’s a price to pay. I didn’t believe it at first either. But since I was little, I’ve been able to see energy, this golden aura flowing around people.”

Transferring my gaze to Bianca, I continued, “When we were younger, Bianca always had a brilliant golden light around her, bright, full of energy. But everything changed after her 18th birthday, the night she never came home. That aura faded drastically.”

“Over the years, she kept dating men behind your backs. The more she did, the weaker her aura became. By the time she got together with Tristan, her lucky aura was completely gone. That’s why I said she couldn’t save him,” I dropped the bomb.

The room fell into stunned silence.

Tristan looked at Bianca like she was a stranger. “You liar. You told me I was your first! You lied

to me!”

Bianca collapsed to the floor, her voice barely above a whisper. “No… no, that’s not true… It can’t

be…”

Still, I calmly went on, “I didn’t want to believe it either. But remember? When we were little, we ooked exactly alike. As the years passed and you kept sleeping around, you absorbed pieces of ‘our partners’ aura. That’s why you became prettier.”

But no matter how attractive you got, that’s all superficial. Your real aura never came back. Anc Bianca, didn’t you ever notice how the men who slept with you all ended up facing one disaster

fter another?”

fter that question left my mouth, Mrs. Clark’s eyes flew wide open in shock. “Wait, are you aying that her sleeping around is what cursed everyone she touched?!”

nodded. “Tristan’s condition? That’s just the beginning. More bad luck is on its way.”

You’re lying! I don’t believe you!” Bianca screamed, crawling toward Tristan. “Honey, I neve

anted to hurt you. I swear!”
