Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Theron’s face went dead white. He scooped up Delilah’s broken body and bolted toward the pack hospital without a backward glance.
Nyra stood frozen for a moment, her fingers curling into fists, but eventually she followed.
Under the harsh hospital lights, the surgery room stayed lit for hours.
Theron paced outside, Delilah’s blood still staining his shirt. For once, his usually controlled expression showed cracks of panic.
Nyra sat quietly nearby, saying nothing.
The surgery doors burst open and a doctor rushed out. “We’ve got a problem-she’s hemorrhaging and needs blood fast. But she’s RH negative and we’re ritically low!”
Theron’s jaw clenched, but before he could speak, Nyra was already on her feet. “I’m RH negative. Take whatever she needs.”
Theron whipped around to stare at her, genuine shock flickering across his face.
yra met his gaze steadily. “Her life matters more.”
he followed the nurse for the blood draw. 400cc flowed from her arm as her face grew ghostly pale, but her expression never wavered.
heron watched the needle pierce her skin, that uncomfortable feeling in his chest intensifying.
What kind of she-wolf gave her blood to save her mate’s lover?
fter the transfusion, Nyra pressed gauze to her arm and found Theron still prowling outside the surgery room.
heron looked up at her, his voice rough. “She’s strong. She’ll pull through.”
heron’s eyes were wild when he looked at her. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
¡yra shook her head. “Delilah thinks there’s something between us. Maybe I can explain things to her properly when she wakes up.”
heron studied her bloodless face. “Sylvae… You love me this much?”
¡yra went very still.
¡efore she could respond, the surgery doors opened and the doctor emerged. “The surgery was successful. Once the anesthesia wears off, she will wake up.”
heron’s tension finally eased.
¡yra quietly stepped back into the shadows.
lours later, Delilah’s eyes fluttered open.
The moment she spotted Nyra, tears welled up. “Theron… did you bring her here to make me give you my blessing?”
Vyra quickly stepped forward. “Delilah, please-you’ve got this all wrong. Theron really did have that emergency meeting. The shopping thing was just… he saw how I was dressed and felt embarrassed. It wasn’t a date, and he didn’t lie to you.”
Theron nodded curtly. “What we have is purely a pack alliance. Nothing more.”
Delilah’s lip trembled. “Then prove it. Prove you feel nothing for her.”
Theron’s brow furrowed. “What do you want me to do?”
Delilah’s eyes went to the window, where moonlight reflected off the frozen lake. “Throw her in the ice lake.”
Theron went completely still. “Delilah…”
“You’re hesitating!” Her voice cracked. “You do care about her!”
Theron stared at Nyra for a long moment. Finally, he gestured to his pack members. “Take her to the lake.”
Nyra’s pupils contracted.
She’d known Theron would do anything for Delilah, but this level of cruelty still shocked her.
But she couldn’t fight back. Not when she was this close to freedom.
She had to endure this.
The wolves dragged her toward the door. Theron didn’t move, his face carved from stone.
The lake water was brutal.
The moment they shoved her in, Nyra could barely breathe. The cold was so brutal it felt like her bones were shattering.
Icy water filled her lungs as her body went numb. She fought to stay afloat, but her limbs wouldn’t obey.
The wolf members watched from shore-they’d follow their Alpha’s orders even if it meant letting his Luna drown.
As consciousness slipped away, Nyra saw flashes of her childhood. Abandoned in the outer territories, winters without heat, shivering alone while Sylvae lived
n luxury.
she’d never been wanted. Not by her family, not by her mate, not by anyone.
ventually, rough hands pulled her from the water.
he was ice-cold, lips blue, completely unconscious.
hrough the haze, she felt someone toweling her off with surprising gentleness.
Ialf-delirious, she grabbed that hand and whispered: “Almost over… just need to hold on a little longer…I can leave soon…”
he hand suddenly gripped hers hard.
Leave? What the hell do you mean, leave?!” Theron’s voice was arctic.
