Chapter 9
Theron delivered those cold words and walked out of the basement without looking back.
Nyra listened to his footsteps fade away before slowly pulling herself up against the wall.
For the next three days, she locked herself in her room and barely came out.
She picked at the meals the staff brought her, eating just enough to survive. No matter how nice it was outside, she never left her room.
She couldn’t give Delilah any more chances to set her up.
At least Theron kept his word-he spent all three days with Delilah and never came home.
Nyra caught glimpses of them through pack gossip and social media. Delilah hanging off Theron’s arm, looking absolutely radiant. When he looked down at her, his expression was so tender they could melt.
The night before the bonding ceremony, Nyra sat at her desk and carefully wrote down all of Theron’s habits and preferences:
Hates vegetables, can’t handle spicy food. Black coffee only, no sugar. Shirts have to be perfectly pressed. Needs total darkness to sleep…”
When she finished, she folded the paper neatly and called for Talia, her Omega maid.
Keep this for me.” Her voice was quiet. “Give it back after the ceremony tomorrow.”
alia looked confused. “Luna, what’s this about?”
Just in case I forget something.” Nyra managed a small smile. “You know how my head’s been all over the place lately.”
alia thought it was weird but took the note anyway. “Sure thing, Luna. I’ll hang onto it!”
fter Talia left. Nyra pulled a packed suitcase from the back of her closet.
he took one last look around the room she’d called home for three years, her eyes stopping on the wedding portrait on the wall.

it the airport, her mother was already waiting.
he shoved a bank card and plane ticket at Nyra. “Thirty million. Every cent we promised. After today, you’re not a Fenwick anymore.”
lyra took the card, her hands shaking just a little.
he looked up at her mother, noticing she wouldn’t even spare her an extra glance.
Thanks,” she said softly.
ler mother’s voice was arctic: “You did well these three years. Kept the alliance solid.”
the paused. “Now go. Live whatever life you want.”
Nyra nodded and headed for security.
At the last moment, she looked back. Her mother was already gone, walking away like she’d never had two daughters.
But Nyra wasn’t hurt anymore. She clutched her ticket, feeling something that might have been hope.
Finally, she could live for herself.
She walked toward her gate without looking back, every step taking her further from the nightmare.
Meanwhile, back at the Ashgrave pack, a she-wolf who was her mirror image was slipping into a white ceremonial gown, quietly preparing for tomorrow’s
ritual.
