Her disgust was plain to see. Kyle frowned. “Probably a voice changer,” he finally said.
He’d met eccentric experts before, some of whom had odd habits like hiding their real voices. “This must be one of them!
With that thought, Kyle walked over and stood in Zina’s path.
“Kellan, have you vetted this person? Is it really a good idea to let them go upstairs alone?”
“Since when do you question my decisions?”
Kellan’s brow arched, and he unleashed the full force of his intimidating presence.
“L.. I don’t.”
Kyle felt like he could barely breathe. He shook his head quickly, a wave of fear washing over him.
He watched them walk past him and head upstairs as if he wasn’t even there, his hands clenching into tight fists at his sides.

As soon as his head was bowed, Rosie sidled up to him.
“Kyle, do you know who that is? Why is your uncle being so nice to them?”
It wasn’t fair. Why did Kellan treat her with such disdain, while he practically worshiped some freak in a mask?.
Rosie stared hard at the spot where Kellan and the doctor had disappeared, her lips pressed into a thin line as a dark feeling. took root in her heart.
Kyle came back to himself and shook his head. “No idea. Probably some con artist he found. I don’t believe for a second that this one person can cure the old man when so many experts have failed.”
The two of them fell silent, each lost in their own schemes.
Meanwhile, upon entering the master bedroom, Zina stopped dead in her tracks.
Her brow furrowed, her gaze turning sharp and cold.
Something was wrong. The whole atmosphere of the room felt off.
“Who takes care of this room?” Zina asked, turning to face Kellan.
Kellan’s face darkened instantly. “The manor staff. Is there a problem?”
Instead of answering. Zina circled the room, finally stopping by the window next to the old man’s bed.
On the sill, a pot of lilies was in full bloom, adding a touch of spring to the room.
But few people knew that lilies could also be a potent poison.

“The medication your father is taking has a negative interaction with lilies,” she explained. “Based on my treatment plan, he should have woken up and shown improvement by now. It seems this is the problem.”
Kellan’s pupils contracted. He stared at the lily plant in disbelief, then slowly closed his eyes, taking a deep, ragged breath.
Pulling out his phone, he spoke in a voice of pure ice, “Get the gardener in here now. And get Kyle and that clinging vine he brought with him out of the living room.”
Zina quirked a small smile. ‘Clinging vine? For Rosie? It fits.
“What are you thinking about?” Kellan’s voice cut through her thoughts.
Zina quickly shook her head, feeling a little flustered. ‘Nothing.”
She didn’t know who Kellan had been on the phone with, but she had to admit they were efficient
Less than ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door, followed by a heavy voice.
“Sir, I’m here.”
“Come in,” Kellan commanded.
A disheveled figure shuffled into the room.
