Chapter 66
Hayden turned to meet Kellan’s ice–cold gaze.
Cowed by Kellan’s overwhelming presence, he broke out in goosebumps and hung his head, meekly replying.
“What instructions?”

“Listen…”
Zina beckoned him over, then leaned in close to whisper.
Kellan watched them whispering, heads bent close.
An unfamiliar irritation prickled under his skin.
‘Since when did Hayden become such a nuisance? The thought sat heavy and sour in his chest.
Feeling the chilling hostility at his back, Hayden shrank back and turned his head around.
But despite his creepy feeling just now, he found nothing.
Zina’s firm pat on his shoulder jolted him back to the present. He blinked, then snapped his gaze up to meet hers.
“Got it. I’ll get right on it,” he replied
Zina gave a slight nod, then turned her gaze to Kellan.
“I’m borrowing your man for a bit. Mr. Carter, I’m sure you won’t mind?”
“Of course,” Kellan replied, idly twirling the thumb ring on his finger, though even its cool metal couldn’t quite soothe the restless agitation simmering within him.
His
gaze
e fell to the old man lying on the bed. “Doctor,” he said, “I’m entrusting my father’s well–being to your care.”
“Rest assured,” Zina nodded, “your father’s good deeds will surely be rewarded. He’s certain to live a long and healthy life.”
Her gaze s
softened in that instant, her eyes calm as she looked at the patient.
An indescribable feeling welled up inside her, gradually settling her into calmness.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door. The butler entered, his brow furrowed with concern.
“Master Kellan, Young Master Kyle is downstairs and has been making quite a scene he insists on seeing you.”
“Does he actually have the nerve to show his face here? Have I been too lenient in putting him in his place lately?” he snapped irritably, frowning.
The butler hung his head, awaiting further instructions silently.
Without another word. Kellan strode downstairs.

Chapter 66
The living room was in complete disarray. Zina had barely reached the second–floor landing when Kyle’s shrill, grating voice pierced the air from downstairs.
“Why the hell won’t you let me into my own house? Who does Kellan think he is? This is my family fortune, and I have every right to it! Even if Grandpa is sick now, it’s not set in stone who’s running the Carter family! You snobbish bastards!”
Kyle lashed out and kicked a nearby chair with all his might, but it didn’t budge an foot instantly started to swell.
inch. Instead, pain shot up his leg as his
His face instantly turned beet red with rage. “Damn it! What the hell is this thing? It’s killing me!”
“Oh, that happens to be the iron chair I just had made for storage. Never thought you’d be the first to test it out.”
Kellan descended the stairs with slow, deliberate steps, his voice deceptively smooth. A smirk teased the edge of his lips, his eyes glinting with unreadable amusement.
“Why? Didn’t quite do the trick?” he smirked..
Kyle’s jaw clenched. “Damn.” He recognized Kellan’s provocation but had no counter. All he could do was seethe, fingers curling into impotent fists while his glare scorched the air between them.
Yet Kellan remained unfazed, merely fixing him with that infuriating half–smirk of his
“You should know there’s a limit to making trouble in my domain. You know I have a notorious temper–it’s a miracle I’ve tolerated you this long. Now, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”
He arched a faint eyebrow, as if Kyle was utterly beneath his notice.
For a split second, Kyle clenched his teeth so hard his jaw ached, fists balled up at his sides as he glared at Kellan with pure venom in his eyes.
But that fury lasted only a few seconds before his expression shifted.
