Chapter 68
Zina stood calmly before Kyle, watching him snivel and beg for mercy–a pathetic sight worlds apart from the proud youth she’d once known.
‘How pathetically dull, she thought.
Her teenage self could hardly have imagined that, in her twenties, she would come to so deeply loathe the boy she had once loved throughout all her youth.
Something unnamable coiled in her chest as she arranged herself on the sofa. Her deceptively soft voice carried a dangerous undercurrent.
“Mr. Kyle Carter,” she said coolly, “you should learn from your mistakes. If you keep acting so recklessly, no one out there. will keep indulging you.”
“And I certainly won’t.”
Kellan picked up right where Zina left off, arching a brow as his eyes gleamed.
He couldn’t help but wonder what kind of charm lay beneath that Bauta Mask
Kyle gritted his teeth and endured thirty agonizing minutes of unbearable itching with his body completely paralyzed. All he could do was watch helplessly as the so–called “Doctor” and Kellan chatted and laughed merrily together, as if he didn’t
even exist.
The moment feeling returned, he lurched forward–only for his stiffened limbs to buckle like rotten wood. He hit the floor hard, muscles screaming from hours locked in paralysis.
“Kellan! What gives you the right to let this woman do this to me?”
Kyle dragged himself upright, every movement sparking fresh fire through stiffened limbs.
His breath came in ragged gasps as he advanced on Kellan–until those ice–cold eyes met his.
The rage drained from him like blood from a wound, leaving only the primal understanding of prey recognizing its predator. His body refused to move another inch.
“Kyle, have I been too lenient with you?”
Kellan subtly arched a brow, mockery glinting in his eyes.
Like a ringmaster taunting a circus act, he spoke in a measured tone, “Kyle, have you forgotten that I’ve always had a stake in the Carter family’s company?”
“What do you want?” Kyle blurted out, reeling back with fear.
He’d never seen Kellan like this, his entire body trembled uncontrollably.
He had a sinking feeling that Kellan was definitely up to something.
The very next second, Kellan spoke calmly. “I’m planning to return to the company.

Chapter 68
“Absolutely not!” Kyle blurted out, slamming his fist on the table, his complexion pale and stiff,
Realizing his outburst had been too much, his face flickered with embarrassment. “Sorry, Uncle Kellan. I mean… you’ve only just returned to the country. There’s no need to rush back to the company so soon.”
“Since when do you get to question my
decisions?”
Kellan’s cold stare pinned Kyle in place. He dropped his head, unable to move or speak.
At this moment, a sweet voice drifted into the room.
“Kyle, what took you so long?” Rosie called out.
She wore a white maxi dress and understated makeup today–all carefully calculated to appear delicate and lovable.
Kyle’s spirits lifted marginally, but his face remained a portrait of frustration as he looked at Rosie. “Rosie, why did you come in? Didn’t I tell you to wait outside?”
Rosic froze for a moment–she hadn’t expected to see Kellan here.
A surge of instinctive fear rose in her heart. She edged closer to Kyle, lifted her slightly wounded expression, and said, “I’ve been waiting outside for so long, Kyle. I just wanted to check how you were doing. I didn’t know Uncle Kellan would be here.”
“I didn’t know I had a niece all of a sudden,” Kellan remarked, his tone laced with icy sarcasm.
His voice was cold and devoid of emotion.
“As expected, I can’t expect anyone around Kyle to know their place,” he added.
His words reduced Rosie to nothing.
