Chapter 79
With just one glance, Zina caught on. She nudged Chris and whispered teasingly in his ear, “Looks like you’ve got yourself an admirer. Chris.”
Chris‘ face turned beet red in an instant, and he stammered incoherently,
“N–no, Boss, you’ve got it all wrong.”
He murmured so softly that, in the woman’s eyes, it looked just like they were engaged in flirtatious banter.
She clenched her fists tightly. For a split second, a flicker of malice flashed in her eyes, but she quickly masked it, keeping that sweet smile firmly in place.
“Oh, well, if you’re not comfortable giving me your contact information, I suppose that’s fine. But that lady over there… she looks hard to get along with, doesn’t she?” Iris said, feigning innocence.
As she spoke, she shot Zina a hostile glare.
Then she surreptitiously slipped a note into Chris‘ hand. “I am Iris Taylor. I’d really appreciate it if you’d keep my contact info. People as kind as you are hard to find these days–I’d love to get to know you better.
Iris flashed a mischievous grin and, in the blink of an eye, snatched Chris headphones, her face brimming with smug delight.
“Hey, handsome, give me your number and I’ll return your headphones. Deal?”
Chris‘ eyes widened in disbelief.
He had never encountered anyone so brazen. His proper upbringing left him no idea how to respond..
Yet Zina, who had seen through the entire charade from the very beginning, simply kept a faint smile on her face and shrugged nonchalantly.
“So, little miss, aren’t you worried we’ll just call the cops?”
Iris wasn’t daunted. She turned to Chris. “You wouldn’t call the cops on me, would you?”
Her face crumpled into that same pitiful expression again, her lips trembling as if she’d suffered some unspeakable cruelty.
“I just wanted to get your contact info. I never thought this lady would be so…” she said, her voice trailing off.
“Enough!” Chris roared, veins bulging at his temples as he swiftly dialed 911.
“Yes, exactly! Someone’s robbing me here! Get here now!”
He railed off the address, his chest heaving with indignation.
The earphones were a gift from Zina. He couldn’t stand this woman just snatching them. ‘Does she think I’m a pushover?
She could be a plant from a rival, sent to stir up trouble! Chris mused.

Chapter 79
His gaze turned downright venomous as he glared at the woman.
Iris was so startled she could barely speak.
She stammered, “I… I just took your headphones. You’re not seriously calling the cops over this, are you?”
“Save it for the cops,” Chris snapped. Without another word, he followed Zina into the car and slammed the door shut, completely ignoring Iris as she rushed over.
Zina noticed the obvious panic in Iris’s eyes and just shook her head, murmuring, “She’s made her bed, now she has to lie in
it.”
Given that the area was bustling and fairly close to the police station, the officers arrived quickly.
Chris got out to handle the situation. After finishing a message on her phone, Zina stepped out to join him.
Chris had almost finished. “That’s the whole story. I’ve never met anyone like her–she rear–ended my car and then had the audacity to snatch my stuff? Just take her away already!”
His face flushed crimson from righteous fury.
Iris goggled at the officers in utter disbelief. At a total loss, all she could do was stammer out frantic denials.
“I didn’t…”
The officers had no interest in Iris’s defense, but duty called. Tight–lipped, they fixed her with a stern look. “Come with us to the station for questioning.”
Hearing that, Iris froze. In a panic, she shoved the officer with all her might and bolted in the opposite direction.
The next moment, the officers instantly realized something was amiss and bolted after her.
Zina’s brow furrowed as she locked eyes with Chris. Without hesitation, the two of them also gave chase.
