Chapter 89
If he could leverage this Miss Lambert to get close to the Lambert family, this would be his perfect chance to take down
Kellan.
The rush of anticipation hit him like a drug–his grip tightened instinctively, fingers biting into Rosie’s waist hard enough to wrench a startled cry from her. The sound jolted him back to the present. “Shh… I’ve got you, he murmured, softening his touch as he brushed a thumb over the red marks he’d left.
Rosie went on, “I do have some rapport with Miss Lambert. This time, let’s make our move.”
“I knew it, Rosie–you really are my lucky charm.
Kyle leaned down, chuckling and pulling Rosie into a crushing embrace that pinned her against his chest.
Rosie’s flirtatious laughter filled the quiet office, mingling with Kyle’s deep, husky voice–the air between them thick with simmering desire.
As noon drew near, the sun hung high in the sky, casting golden light across the ground.

Zina sat by the window. Watching the bustling crowd outside, her gaze grew increasingly inscrutable.
“Mr. Carter, why did you summon me here?”
She looked up to meet Kellan’s gaze. A subtle frown creased her brow, but it was hidden beneath her mask.
Kellan pressed his lips into a thin line, his chiseled features radiating an icy intensity as he advanced, his presence almost oppressive.
“Doctor,” he said, “I need the honest truth about my father’s condition”
“I believe I’ve already made myself quite clear,” Zina said.
Though a faint crease appeared between Zina’s brows, her eyes remained composed as she studied Kellan with a touch of amused curiosity.
Kellan frowned, his voice turning icy. “I want exact answers. Last time you told me to watch those around me–you meant Kyle, didn’t you? Do you know him? To put it bluntly, what’s the bad blood between you two?”
Zina’s heart skipped a beat. Before she could respond, Kellan closed the distance between them once more, his piercing eyes glinting with cold intensity.
“Who are you?” he demanded.
“You’re
a woman, aren’t you?
“Are you the Sinclair family’s eldest daughter?”
Zina’s heart lurched. She instinctively looked up, biting down hard on her lower lip, her fingers clenching the fabric of her
clothes.
A cold sweat trickled down her spine, and her lashes trembling imperceptibly in the still air.

Chapter 89
Time seemed to freeze in that instant. The world around Zina fell utterly silent–so quiet she could hear nothing but her own frantic breathing.
“Am I right, Miss Sinclair?”
Kellan fixed his gaze unblinkingly on the person before him, a faint smirk curling at the corners of his lips.
Yet, his uncontrollably trembling fingers betrayed his inner turmoil.
Zina managed to compose herself. “Mr. Carter, have your delusions really gotten this bad?”
She let out a sudden laugh.
Then her fingertips grazed the edge of the mask on her face, tracing it slowly. In the heavy silence, even the faint rasp touch became unnervingly clear.
Kellan stared at those roving fingers, terrified of missing even a split second.
But just as those slender fingers grazed the edge of the mask, Zina suddenly lunged forward, her piercing directly onto Kellan’s.
“Sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Carter, but I’m not a woman at all

Her words hung in the air as her fingers drified to her throat, coming to rest where the sharp prominence of an Adam’s apple now stood exposed.
The high collar of her shirt had concealed it perfectly–until that slight shift.
In an instant, every assumption was shattered. His breath caught.
All the strength seemed to drain out of Kellan. He collapsed helplessly into his chair, his mind buzzing with confusion, unable to process what had just happened.
“Forgive me.” His voice carried the weight of genuine remorse. “I allowed conjecture to replace judgment–that was unacceptable.”
Zina adjusted the folds of her sleeves with deliberate calm before meeting his gaze.
“It’s fine. Now, let’s have a proper discussion about what you just told me regarding Kyle.”
