Zina had barely stepped into the restaurant when she sensed something was off.
It was as if multiple pairs of eyes were tracking her every move.
Zina bent down to brush a speck of dust from her skirt. As she straightened up, her peripheral vision caught a man nearby who hadn’t managed to look away in time.
He was dressed in a black suit that accentuated his imposing frame, yet by deliberately keeping a low profile, he blended into the crowd and was almost invisible.
If Zina hadn’t bent down just now, she wouldn’t have noticed him.
Zina felt a sudden jolt of alarm, but she quickly forced a practiced smile onto her face. “Sorry to keep you all waiting,” she said.
Zina took her seat and began fidgeting with her phone, clearly distracted.
Just then, Andy suddenly stood up, putting on a practiced smile as he raised his glass with exaggerated cheerfulness. “Let’s all enjoy ourselves tonight. By the way, a friend of mine might be joining us later. Doctors, I hope you won’t mind.”
Zina’s brow furrowed slightly as a sense of foreboding welled up inside her.
Just as Andy’s voice faded, a deep male voice rang out from outside the private room. “Sorry, I’m late.”
Zina jolted at that all–too–familiar voice, her body instinctively tensing as every nerve screamed for her to run.
Then, a familiar figure appeared–Kellan in a crisp white shirt, his suit jacket casually draped over one arm. With a single indifferent glance, he exuded an air of cold detachment.
With deliberate steps, Kellan circled around before finally taking the seat right beside her.
At that moment, Zina could almost hear her heart shattering.
Yet Kellan seemed oblivious to her presence. Zina felt a sense of relief as if a weight had been lifted..
Zina was absorbed in her phone when a sudden clatter rang out–lier fork had fallen to the floor. She instinctively bent. down to pick them up.
As she straightened up, a deep voice sounded above her. “Miss Sinclair, that little mole behind your ear is quite charming.” Kellan remarked.
At that moment, cold sweat broke out on Zina’s back.
Her body stiff, she sat up and quickly smoothed her clothes before giving a slight nod and murmuring. “You flatter me, Sir. It’s just a birthmark.”
“Yet it’s perfectly placed,” Kellan replied, his tone laced with amusement. His eyes glinted with hidden amusement carefully sized up Zina beside him.

as he approached.
“Mr. Carter, do you and Doctor know each other?” Andy asked.
“Doctor?” Kellan arched an eyebrow. “I’ve heard of Miss Sinclair and know bits of her past, but I really didn’t know she was a doctor. Is Miss Sinclair truly such a skilled physician?”
“Not at all,” Zina quickly waved her hand, her eyes darting to Wade as inspiration struck. “Actually, I’ve just been riding on Mr. Sylvan’s coattails to gain some undeserved reputation. I don’t have any real skills–it’s all thanks to Mr. Sylvan
Catching Zina’s cue, Wade stood up with a light chuckle. “I do know a thing or two about medicine, Mr. Carter.
“If you ever need anything, feel free to come to me. As for my apprentice here, she’s still learning, so I wouldn’t want her to trouble you with her amateur skills.”
“I see,” Kellan said.
