Zina stood in the center of the room, a starry gleam in her eyes.
After briefing them on their assignments, Zina turned her gaze to Chris again.
Zina said, “You don’t need to shadow me these days. Lead the team and get to the bottom of everything that needs investigating. For the rest, await further orders”
“Understood, Boss‘ Chris replied. He concealed the turmoil in his eyes, maintaining a calm facade.
Zina glanced around the room, her gaze growing sharper until it finally settled on one man.
“Come with me,” she said.
The man looked a bit puzzled, but followed Zina into another room without hesitation.
As the door clicked shut behind them, Zina looked up at him. “Your name?” she asked.
“Huh?” Jacob blinked, then quickly answered, “Jacob Larkin.”
“Alright, I’ll remember that. Show me your skills. Your training at the Base is still far from enough–it’s only managed to catch my eye, nothing more,” she said.
Zina’s eyes remained calm as she watched him, a slow smile curving her lips.
Jacob clenched his fists, lifting his head, determination flashing in his eyes.
‘T’ll prove myself. I won’t back down, he declared. His words echoed in the room like a challenge.
Zina nodded in satisfaction. “Dismissed. I have things to do.”
On the way, Chris glanced at Zina, wanting to say something but holding back. In the end, he couldn’t help himself and. spoke quietly. “Boss, why did you call Jacob over just now?”
“If I utilized him properly, he could accomplish great things,” Zina replied calmly. She suddenly stopped, let out a quiet sigh, and added, “You should focus on your responsibilities. No one can ever replace your position by my side.”
“Boss, I-“Chris’s voice cut off abruptly. The next second, he bowed deeply. “Boss, I overstepped. I spoke out of turn. I forgot my place.”
“I do consider you a friend,” Zina said, looking down at him. “But there are things you should be more careful about. I’ll pretend I never heard this. Understand?”
Zina pursed her lips and remained silent, a trace of regret flickering in her eyes.
“Yes, Boss, Chris answered quickly, his face pale.

Zina had no mood to dwell on these m
matters now.
Back at the hotel, just as Zina was about to enter her room, Andy suddenly popped up out of nowhere.
“Mr. Wood, aren’t you a little too free these days?” Zina said bluntly, fixing him with a direct stare.
Andy was taken aback, realizing what she meant, and his brow furrowed.
“Doctor, what a thing to say,” he stammered. “I just saw the driver suffering so much in the hospital, so I came to see if you might have a way to ease his pain.”
As he spoke, he waved his hand, even managing to look genuinely concerned.
Zina smiled faintly, her lips barely parting. “Of course, there’s a way. Euthanasia would be much easier. The question is, are you willing to go that far, Mr. Wood?”
A cold sweat broke out on Andy, his lips trembling as he stared at Zina in horror.
