Zack scratched his head sheepishly. “Well, I guess it’s not that urgent after all. I’ll just wait outside then.”
After saying that, Zack scurried off, leaving only Zina, Miles, and Cain in the room, staring at each other in awkward silence.
“Your assistant is quite the character, isn’t he?” A few seconds later, Zina awkwardly chuckled as she gave her assessment, and then the room fell into a complete, uncomfortable silence.
At that moment, Miles wished the ground would just swallow him up. Flushing crimson, he stammered awkwardly. “This is unusual. He’s never acted like this before.”
And just like that, Miles’s barely audible whisper faded into silence, as if it had never existed.
Zina rubbed her temples and quickly steered the conversation back on track.
“I just spoke with the maid responsible for this floor–something was off about her, Zina said. “You should investigate her; it might lead somewhere.
“Also, Cain has congenital toxicity in his system. It’s hard to resolve, and all I can do is my best, but I can’t promise any specific results.”
“Understood.” Miles lowered his head, his long lashes casting a shadow over his eyes, hiding the turmoil–and the vulnerability–he refused to let anyone see.
When Miles looked up again, he was once more the ever–gentlemanly guy.
Thank you so much, Miss Sinclair. You’ve done so much for us–if you ever need anything, just let me know. As long as it’s within my power, I’ll make it happen.”
Zina looked up and met Miles’s intense, burning gaze. Instinctively, she wanted to look away, yet found herself irresistibly
drawn in.
Caught off guard, Zina quickly averted her gaze and said in an even tone, “Understood.”
Neither spoke another word, their calm gazes heavy with unspoken tension.
A few moments later, it was Miles who suddenly broke the heavy silence between them.
“I’ve learned a few things about the Sinclair family through my connections these past couple of days. Kevin may be involved in some shady businesses. I have the right contacts and can help you look into it if you’d like,” Miles offered.
“Oh, that would be wonderful, Mr. Quinn. I’d really appreciate that,” she said. Zina’s eyes curved with a gentle sanile, warmth lighting her expression.
For a fleeting moment, Miles was entranced once again.
Mid–sentence, Cain suddenly reached out and grabbed Zina’s hand, holding on tight.
“Zina, please marry Miles. Miles hasn’t married yet. If you marry him, I’ll help you keep an eye on him–I promise he’ll never bully you,” Cain said eagerly.

At this, Cain’s face lit up with joy as he pumped his little fists, his eyes sparkling with anticipation and a bright smile. He stared unblinkingly at Zina, full of hope and excitement.
Miles frantically waved his hands, stammering, “No, no, Cain didn’t mean it like that. Please don’t take it the wrong way.”
Miles’s face burned crimson, his voice growing fainter and fainter until it disappeared entirely. He barely dared to look up at
Zina
Seeing no sign of displeasure on Zina’s face, Miles finally allowed himself to relax a little.
What followed, however, was a long, awkward silence.
Zina looked up slightly and gently stroked Cain’s head. “Cain, this is Miles’s lifelong happiness we’re talking about it’s not something to joke about, alright? He needs to marry someone he truly loves.”
“But I think he likes- Before Cain could finish, Miles swiftly clapped a hand over his mouth and shot Zina an apologetic look.
“Miss Sinclair,” Miles said apologetically, “Cain’s just a child–you know how kids say the darndest things.”
Zina smiled and nodded, “It’s quite alright
The moment she finished saying those three words, Zina’s gaze dropped–and she noticed Cain, his face an alarming shade of purple.
“Let go now. Cain can’t breathe, Zina cried out in alarm.
