Miles instinctively let go, and little Cain, unable to support himself, tumbled to the ground with a soft thud.
Cain’s little face went pale as a sheet, his eyes wide with shock.
“M–Miles,” Cain stammered, his voice trembling.
His faint whimper snapped Miles out of his thoughts. Only then did he notice Cain, who had fallen to the floor, and in a fluster, he scrambled to help the child up. “Sorry, I acted too hastily there. Are you okay!”
Cain, before even learning to regulate his emotions, had already learned to read the room. He quickly shook his head, forcing a smile. “N–no. I’m fine,” he stammered.
Miles’s lips twitched in an awkward apology, but Cain didn’t even glance his way–his gaze remained firmly fixed on Zina
But at that moment, Zina didn’t even spare him a glance her attention was completely absorbed by the phone that had just
buzzed.
Zina remained oblivious to Miles’s prolonged gaze, her brows deeply furrowed, the expression in her eyes unreadable.
Zina thought to herself, “What a pain. Why does the Lambert family never stop causing trouble?
Honestly, Adrian is such a weirdo. How on earth did he get my contact info?‘
Zina paused, then it hit her. When she first arrived at the Lambert Villa, Yvonne had asked Adrian to look after her, so they’d casually added each other on WhatsApp.
Zina grew even more irritated. Honestly, she couldn’t stand any of the Lambert kids–especially that airheaded Adrian.
Zina thought to herself, “What if I spend too much time with him and end up catching his stupidity?”
However, despite all her internal ranting about this new nuisance, Zina still resigned herself to replying to his message.
[What now? Calling me back–did the Lambert family get into trouble again?]
It couldn’t blame Zina for being blunt–she simply couldn’t be bothered to waste words on an idiot like Adrian, who seemned. to be missing half his brain cells.
His reply came swiftly–just as curt as before, yet laced with a hint of pleading.
Adrian: [Emergency. Need you back now.]
After much deliberation, Zina slowly typed out: Okay.]
Looking up again, Zina met Miles’s gentle gaze. “What’s up? Why are you staring at me like that?”
Miles quickly averted his gaze, the tips of his cars flushing a faint red. “N–nothing. Are you about to leave?”
“Oh, well, there’s a family emergency, so I need to head back. But don’t worry. I’ve already examined Cain. I’ll text you the medical instructions; just follow them step by step,” Zina said.

She spoke earnestly while Miles listened intently, but sandwiched between them. Cain squinted his eyes and flashed a mischievous grin.
Cain never took his eyes off Zina and Miles until Zina left.
‘Miles’s getting a girlfriend soon, Cain thought excitedly. ‘He is such a coward–he clearly has feelings for her, so why can’t he just confess? No, this won’t do. I have to find a way to help Miles.
Cain nodded solemnly at thin air, growing more convinced that this was his sacred mission. His eyes sparkled with newfound determination.
The moment Zina stepped out of the car at the Lambert Villa, her brows furrowed uncontrollably. A flicker of something strange passed through her eyes, only to vanish just as quickly.
Zina rushed into the living room. The moment she recognized the figure standing there, it all clicked–now she understood why Adrian had summoned her back in such frantic haste.
“What?” Zina looked up, her gaze meeting Yvonne’s lowered eyes.
Yvonne flushed, at a loss for how to respond to Zina, and could only let out another long sigh.
