Cassandra’s POV

Stella and I pulled up in front of the Vicious Circle.
“Remember this place?” Stella asked, a mischievous look on her face.
“Of course,” I said. It just also happened to be the same building where Dillon and I had our ‘business‘ dinner. My mind flashed back to that wonderful dinner. All the amazing food. The easy conversation. The look in Dillon’s eyes…
“Earth to Cassandra,” Stella said, waving her hand in front of my face.
“Sorry,” I mumbled.
“You really ARE a mess,” she said. “Well, it’s nothing that a few martinis can’t fix.”
Just then, I remembered something.
“Wait. I have this…” I reached into my wallet and pulled out a Vicious Circle VIP card.
Stella’s eyes went wide. “Holy shit, Cass! Where did you get that?!
“Dillon gave it to me,” I shrugged. He’d given it to me during our dinner. I tried to refuse but he was adamant. He said I should use it whenever I wanted.
Stella snatched the card from my hands. She flipped it over.
“Cassandra,” she said, “it’s a diamond–level VIP. Do you know what that means?”
“It sparkles,” I said dryly.
“Ha ha. Very funny. No. This card is like magic. We can have anything we want with this. Our own private room. Unlimited free drinks. Hell, we can probably even order some hot bartenders to serve us shirtless!”
“Well I don’t know about that,” I rolled my eyes.
“It’s true. Watch this.”
Stella sauntered over to the valet and flashed the card at him. He immediately jumped up, took her keys, and radioed someone. Moments later, a man in a suit appeared.
“Ladies,” he said, holding out his arms to us. “Allow me to personally escort you to the bar in our own private elevator.”
“See?” Stella hissed at me as we linked arms with the man. “Just. Like. Magic.” She snapped her fingers for effect.
I giggled.
So she was right. It was no ordinary VIP card. I shouldn’t have been surprised. Dillon was very generous. I should come as no shock that he gave me the very best card the bar had to offer.
We rode in the private elevator.
“Will you ladies be wanting a private VIP room?” the man asked as we stepped off the elevator and into the club.
“Yes,” Stella said.
“No,” I replied at the same time.
Stella cocked her head to the side. “Come on, Cass.”
“I don’t want to take advantage of Dillon’s kindness,” I whispered
“He gave you the card so you could USE it. Live a little. This is a celebration! You’re finally free. Act like it.”

I sighed. When Stella had her mind set on something, it was almos impossible to change it.

“Fine, I sighed. “We’ll get a private rooth. But AFTER we sit at the bar for a bit. I want to see what’s going on, you know? Be in the action. Not sequestered away in some private VIP room.”
It was true. I loved the vibe of the place. The ambience was great and the dance floor was huge. I wanted to watch people all around me, dancing and having fun.
Stella wrapped her arm around my shoulder. “Then to the bar!” she said loudly, pointing the way.
We plunked down on two bar stools, flashed our VIP card, and ordered our drinks. The bartender was amazing. He tossed shot glasses around in the air, putting on a display that rivaled the best Cirque du Soleil jugglers. And he winked wickedly at us while
he did it.
“Cheers,” Stella said when we had our drinks. “To new beginning
“To new beginnings,” I said, clinking my glass on hers. The strange feeling I’d had in the car about the divorce was slowly dissipating. I was starting to feel good, REALLY good. I was finally free to move on and become anything I wanted to be.
With time, Twas sure that Jordyn would just become a memory. Hell, he already was! Stella and I downed our drinks and ordered another round. We rated the men on the dance floor with our own unique rating system that we’d devised in college.
“S for hair, 6 for shoes, and 7 for dance moves? Do you agree?” Stella giggled as she pointed to a man in a plaid shirt grinding his hips to the music on the dance floor.
“Look at him,” I said. “That’s some serious hip action. Give the guy at least an 8.”
“Okay, okay,” Stella conceded. “I’ll find the next one.” She looked around the room. Then she grabbed my wrist. “Oh shit, Cass. Is that…is that Jordyn?”
“What?” I snapped, looking the same way as her.
Sure enough, it was Jordyn. He was sitting at a table with one of his close friends. I’d met him before at an event Jordyn had taken me to. What was his name? Brooks? Or Bailey? Something like that. It didn’t matter. Because my eyes fell on the woman sitting next to Jordyn.
“And he’s with Miss Skanky Skank of the year,” Stella hissed.
Ellie.
Just then, Jordyn looked up and our eyes met.
“Shit,” I said, quickly looking away. “Did he see me?” I whispered to Stella, my head down.
“I think so,” Stella said.
“Well who cares anyway.” I slammed my drink down on the bar and grabbed Stella’s hand. “Come on. We’re dancing,” I said firmly as I dragged her off her stool.
I didn’t care whether or not he saw me. I was having a great time and I had absolutely no interest in talking to Jordyn.
Stella and I made our way onto the dance floor and started dancing. It was a good song, one we both knew with an upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics. I was feeling a bit buzzed by the martinis. Stella and I sang along, bouncing happily to the beat.
But before long, Jordyn appeared on the dance floor. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the side before I could register what was happening.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked. I looked over and saw Ellie glaring at us from across the room.
“I think you’re confused, Jordyn,” I said, pointing at Ellie. “Ellie’s over there. Shouldn’t you be with your fiancée?”
But Jordyn frowned, looked me dead in the eyes, and said, “What do you mean?”
