Chapter 36: On the Dance Floor
Cassandra’s POV
“Seriously? Don’t be such an asshole,” I snapped at him. I assumed he was just playing dumb and I was SO over all his bullshit. “Everything okay here?” Stella asked, appearing at my side.
“Yup,” I said. We both put our hands on our hips. Jordyn looked beseechingly at me. I didn’t get it. What did he want? The papers were signed. He was here with Ellie. She was glaring at him from across the room. It was time to move on! “I was just directing Jordyn here back to his beloved fiancé. He seems to have gotten lost.”
“That way, fuck wad,” Stella said, pointing at Ellie.
“Cassandra,” Jordyn started, but I waved my hand dismissively at him and walked away.
“What a jerk,” Stella said. “Sorry, I didn’t see him pull you away. Next time, I clock him if you want me to. I have a good right hook. I even took boxing lessons. For cardio, of course. But I can throw a punch.”
“Thanks. But I think that would only add fuel to the fire. Let’s just ignore him.”
“Back to the bar?”
“You know what, let’s get out here. Go grab a late dinner? I’m kind of over this scene,” I told her. I’d been having fun but I honestly didn’t want to be in the same room as Jordyn right now. We’d literally JUST divorced a few hours ago in his office. needed space.
“Absolutely,” Stella said. “I’m in the mood for sushi. You?”
I smiled gratefully at her. She was such a good friend. The best, really. She could stay there at the Vicious Circle and drink for free all night with VIP treatment, but she didn’t even hesitate when I said I wanted to go.
“I’ll clear the tab,” I told her, taking out my VIP card.
“I’ll wait here.”
I pushed my way through the throngs of people to the bar. It was getting later in the evening and the place was really picking up.
I handed over the card to clear the tab. To my surprise, the bartender appeared with a bottle of wine.
“A complimentary gift,” he said. “For our diamond VIPs.”
I read the label. I was impressed. It was an expensive wine. Maybe Stella and I could grab some sushi to go and hit up the hot tub back at my place with this wine. It had been a tense day. I could use a good soak.
“We have red, if you prefer,” the bartender said.
“Thanks, but this is perfectly fine,” I said, nodding at him.
“Where’s my wine?” a voice said behind me, it’s Ellie. And I turned to see Ellie and Jordyn
Jesus. He really was following me. Couldn’t I go anywhere without running into him and his little side–kick?
Stella saw him standing behind me and made a beeline towards me.
“It’ll just be one moment,” the bartender said. “I’m just printing off the comped receipt for you to sign.”
I smiled as Stella pushed her way over to me.
“What does he mean ‘comped receipt‘?” Ellie said. She snapped her hand at a waitress. The waitress was balancing a tray of drinks. She looked highly unimpressed by Ellie.
“Ma’am,” Ellie said in a derogatory tone. “Those girls got a complimentary bottle of wine. Why didn’t we?”

“Uh,” the waitress said, looking over at us uncomfortably, “tassuthe that was a gift? Because they’re VIPs?”
“I want to be a VIP,” Ellie told the waitress, lifting her chin.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know how to do that, maybe you can ask the staff there,” the waitress said. Just then, someone bumped into the waitress from the back. She stumbled forward, almost losing her tray.
“Babe, get me a VIP card,” Ellie said to Jordyn, in her usual sweet and cloying tone of voice.
“Am I really drunk or is this fucking hilarious?” Stella whispered my ear.
“Both,” I whispered back.
We watched as Ellie and Jordyn argued. Ellie pulled out all the stops, including a pretty pathetic pout. She ordered Jordyn to get her a VIP card. Jordyn walked away to find the manager.
“Ladies, your bill,” the bartender said. I slapped my signature on my eyes fixed on Ellie and her ridiculous display.
“Ready to go?” I asked.
“Just wait, it’s like watching a train wreck. I want to see the end,” Stella whispered. Truth be told, I did too. Watching Ellie throw a hissy fit was actually really fun, when it wasn’t directed at me.
Jordyn came back.
“They’re not for sale,” he told her. This set Ellie off.
“What do you mean?” she hissed. “Your ex–wife has one. Where did she get it?”
“Apparently those cards are gifts from the owner. That’s the only way to get one.”
“Let me go ask,” Ellie said, shoving past him. She marched off to find another staff member. She was out of earshot now, but we could see her arguing.
“Okay, show’s over,” Stella said. “Sushi time!”
We weaved past Jordyn who was sitting at a table, staring disgruntledly into his beer bottle. He looked miserable.
Good riddance, I thought to myself.
“She’s a real piece of work,” Stella said, slurring slightly as we got on the private elevator. “I honestly don’t know what Jordyn sees in her. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an asshole. But he’s a BIT better than her. No?”
“I agree. She’s impossible.”
“Then what do you think it is? Her tits?” Stella laughed at her own joke.
“Ellie’s his first love,” I shrugged as the elevator door opened. “After her accident, she fell into a coma and he sort of, well, abandoned her. He had no choice but to marry me. Maybe he feels like he owes her though. I dunno.”
“Owes her? That’s rich,” Stella scoffed. “He treated you so coldly. If he owes anyone anything, it’s you. Doesn’t he have any guilt about you?”
I smiled faintly. “You know what? I honestly don’t care anymore.“I stopped to face Stella in the lobby. “The divorce papers are signed. It’s done. From now on, Jordyn and I only have a business relationship. He can do whatever he wants. Because movin forward, all he is to me is Mr. Smith.”
