Chapter 31: His New Assistant
Cassandra’s POV
“Do I look like an assistant?” I asked.
It was three days later and Stella and I were standing outside Jordy’s office. We were about to meet with him to sign the contracts but I, of course, had to keep posing as a personal assistant.
“What the hell does that even mean?” Stella laughed.
“I don’t know,” I said defensively. “I mean, like, am I dressed okay?”
Ever since I’d almost let my true identity slip at the hospital, I’d become a little paranoid. I really didn’t want Jordyn to discover who I really was until the divorce papers were signed.
“Yes,” Stella huffed. “You’re fine. Stop worrying so much. He already thinks you’re an assistant. He had no reason to think otherwise. Now come on, we’re gonna be late.”
Stella and met the receptionist, and then we were led into a large conference room. Jordyn and his team were already waiting for us.
“Miss Sinclair,” Jordyn said, standing to address Stella. “I hope traffic wasn’t too bad.” He extended his hand and Stella shook it.
Traffic had been a complete nightmare, which was one of the reasons we were almost late.
“Not at all. We’re…uh…I mean I’M happy to be here,” Stella said politely. I side–eyed her.
See? I said with my eyes. That’s how easy it is to slip up! She had to pretend she was the only company owner in the room. As far as everyone else was concerned, I was just a lowly assistant.
“Good, good,” Jordyn smiled. “Please, take a seat. We have the documents all ready to go.” He pushed the documents towards Stella. Stella opened them and angled them so that I could discreetly see them as well.
Just then, the door opened and a woman scurried in. I was surprised to see it was Ellie!
What the fuck?
What was SHE doing here?
Ellie walked over to sit beside Jordyn. “Miss Sinclair,” he said to Stella.
“Please, Stella,” she said.
“Stella,” Jordyn corrected himself. “This is my new assistant, Ellie Cassandra and Ellie are already acquainted.”
Ellie held out her hand. “A pleasure to meet you, Stella,” she smiled smugly. They shook hands.
“Ellie,” I said, extending my hand, but she turned away, leaving me holding out my hand like an idiot.
I felt myself get riled up. She really thought she was something special!
But no. I had to stay calm. I couldn’t let my personal feelings surface. This was just business. I took a deep breath and regained my composure.
Ellie sat down and took out a notebook. She sat, staring at us, pen poised. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
“Well, do mind if I take a look at this?” Stella asked, turning over the first page of the document. Ellie jotted something down.
“Not at all. Take your time. But I think you’ll find that everything’s in order,” Jordyn smiled.
Again, Ellie wrote in her notebook.

Stella shot in a warning look. She was right. I conta laugh all I wered when we were out of there. Fue abor, I had in rattatr professional
We began reading the contract. A few times, Stella pointed to something and rapped her finger tread it, then nodded
“Sorry to interrupt,” Jordyn said as we perused the contract. “pwould an assistant really be reading this? I mean, it has some pretty confidential information in it?”
Seriously???
I raised my head and glared at Jordyn. Did he actually just say that so he thought I was an assistant, fine. But I’d been his WIFE!
He was so derisive, so condescending.
That arrogant piece of…
Stella preemptively mitigated the situation.
“I assure you,” she said, her voice firm. “Cassandra is not just an assistant‘. She’s a senior assistant and she’s training to become a manager.”
“Still,” Jordyn scoffed. “It’s highly unorthodox to have…”
“What’s ‘unorthodox,” Stella snapped, interrupting him, “is having someone else tell ME how to run my staff. Is that how you do business, Mr. Smith? And if that’s the case, then perhaps I could offer you a few tips about YOUR staff.”
Stella looked pointedly at Ellie, who looked panicked as she scribbled fast, trying to write down everything we said.
She looked positively ridiculous, and Jordyn knew it.
Jordyn looked at Ellie then back at Stella. Stella fixed him with a serious look.
“I apologize,” Jordyn muttered. “I shouldn’t have said anything. You’re right, it’s not my place.”
Seeing Jordyn’s embarrassment and quick apology made me stifle a laugh. I mentally applauded Stella’s quick–thinking.
And her gumption. She’d definitely put Jordyn in his place.
We finished reading and Stella closed the contract.
“Is everything okay on your end?” Jordyn asked, his tone professional again.
“It is,” Stella confirmed. The contract was great. It was exactly what we’d discussed. I had to hand it to Jordyn, this was a wonderful collaboration for both of our companies.
Stella signed it, and then slid it over to Jordyn. He did the same. As one of the partners of Hot House Flower, we only needed her signature on the contract.
Both Stella and Jordyn retained a copy of the signed contract and they shook hands again.
“I look forward to working with you,” Jordyn smiled. “Let’s schedule our next meeting and…”
“Not so fast,” I said, standing up. Stella gave me a knowing smile, she knew exactly what was coming next; we’d discussed it on the way over. We both agreed it was the perfect time. He wouldn’t see it coming. “Don’t put your pen away just yet,” I smiled slyly..
Jordyn watched me, his eyes skeptical.
I reached into my briefcase and pulled out the revised divorce papers. I slapped them on the table with a flourish.
“There’s something else I need you to sign.”
