Chapter 32 Reconsider?
Cassandra’s POV
The revised divorce papers sat on the table. The room was completly silent.
Ellie’s eyes flew open. Jordyn stared at the papers in stummed silente.
“Jordyn,” Ellie started, but he waved his hand dismissively at her Leave, please” he said. “All of you
Everyone stood and awkwardly filed out of the room, Stella includert. But as Stella left, the winked at me, gave me a little thumbs up, and mouthed:
‘Good luck‘.
“What are these?” Jordyn asked, his eyes fixed on the papers on the table.
“You know what those are,” I said firmly. I was done with playing games. He agreed to sign the papers after his meeting with my company’s CEO. And I was holding him to it.
“The divorce papers?” He looked up at me and I saw a flicker of sadness in his eyes. But I couldn’t let myself care. myself of our marriage and the way he had treated me all those years. His feeble apologies now didn’t make up for the years of

neglect.
“Yes, Jordyn,” I replied, lifting my chin. “Sign them. Let’s be done with this once and for all.”
“Why now?” he asked. “I mean, what’s the rush?”
“What’s the rush?” I scoffed. “I’ve been very patient. You keep stalling. The papers are right there, in front of you. Pick up a pen and sign them.”
My voice was cold and I knew it. He furrowed his brows and studied my face.
“Let’s take some time,” he said. “To think about this. It just feels so…final. Isn’t there any chance you’ll reconsider?”
“Reconsider? I believe I made myself very clear that night at the hospital, Jordyn. As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing to reconsider. It’s over. Plain and simple. You and I? Our marriage? It’s all in the past now.”
His eyes flitted back to the papers on the desk but he made no move to open them.
“Are you not a man of your word?” I prodded. “We had a deal. You got your meeting with the Hot House Flower CEO. And a VERY successful meeting at that. You agreed to sign the papers in exchange for that meeting and…”
“Coffee?” Ellie barged in, at the worst possible time. I shot her a look, exasperated by her intrusion.
She walked right over to Jordyn, a cup of coffee in hand.
“Thank you,” Jordyn said, clearly relieved for the interruption. I, on the other hand, was super annoyed. I was starting to feel like the Universe was conspiring against me. Whenever I got close to having Jordyn sign the papers, something like this seemed to happen.
“Oh, it’s not for you,” Ellie said, a fake smile on her face. “The coffee is for Cassandra.” She batted her eyelashes at me. I wondered for a brief moment if Ellie had poisoned the coffee. I wouldn’t put it past her. What other reason would she have for bringing me coffee? But then I chuckled softly to myself.
She was a bitch, but murder seemed a little extreme, even for her. She probably just spat in it.
She made her way around Jordyn, towards me. But as she came at me, she pretended to trip on the leg of a chair. The coffee at flying in the air and splashed all over my blouse.
“Ooopsie,” Ellie giggled, biting her lip. “I didn’t see that chair there. Oh no, Cassandra. Look at your blouse. I’m SO sorry.”
Fury rose in me. My blouse was completely ruined! I tried to shake off the excess coffee but the damage was already done.

“Oh shit,” Jordyn said. He grabbed a napkin from the pastry plate and headed towards me, the napkin held out in front.
Ellie snatched the napkin from Jordyn.
“Here, let me,” she said. She started rubbing the coffee INTO my blouse.
“Stop. You’re making it worse,” I protested.
“Nonsense,” she said. I resisted the urge to slap her. She was testing my patience in the worst possible way.
“Get off me,” I seethed.
“Cassandra, come with me,” Jordyn said. “I have some spare clothes in my office. You can get changed there. Ellie, stop it. Go back to your desk. Don’t you have work to do?”
Ellie stopped and smiled sweetly. “Of course,” she said. Then she shot me a siñug look, dropped the napkin on the table with a flourish, and scurried out of the room.
The last thing I wanted to do was spend any more time with Jordyn But I couldn’t leave his building like this, covered in coffee stains. I didn’t even have a coat to cover me up. i
“Fine,” I sighed. “But we have to make this quick. I have places to be.”
Jordyn nodded and led me down the hallway to his office.
“Take your pick,” he said, pointing to a rack with a few women’s outfits on it. I assumed they were Ellie’s, but I honestly didn’t even care at that point. I just wanted to get changed, find Stella, and get the hell out of there.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Jordyn said, ducking out of the room and closing the door behind him. I pulled a shirt off the rack without hardly even glancing at it. And I quickly unbuttoned my blouse and swapped it out for the clean one.
I was just about to leave, when I saw something on Jordyn’s desk.
It was a document with a picture sticking out from under the corners. I knew I shouldn’t snoop in Jordyn’s affairs, but curiosity got the better of me.
I flipped open the first few pages and was surprised to see…
A picture of myself.
What the? I whispered out loud. I looked more closely at what looked like the scene of a car accident. This was Ellie’s car accident, I was sure of it.
But what was I doing there?
I suddenly understood why Jordyn had accused me of being involved with Ellie’s accident.
I was right there, in that picture, at the scene of the accident.
The only problem was…
I had absolutely no memory of the incident at all.
