She stepped into the office, closing the door behind her with a soft click. Her resemblance to Frost was striking–the same ice–blue eyes, though hers held none of his integrity.
“You know why I am here; I just need… your support. The hesitation in her voice was calculated, a practiced vulnerability.
“My support? Do you mean money?” I remained seated, refusing to give her the courtesy of rising.
“I know you might hate me for everything I’ve done to Frost, but please, I really need your help. She moved closer, her desperation seemingly genuine.
“It’s not just a possibility, I do hate you. I wonder why you always come to me for financial aid when you could just ask your son/ lover Adrian for help. I heard he’s now a person of importance over there, the pack should be able to lend him a helping hand, right?” The contempt in my voice was undisguised.
She flinched slightly, whether at the mention of Adrian or my tone, I couldn’t tell. “The pack is facing major issues.”
“Meaning they are going broke?” I raised an eyebrow.
“You can call it that; we really need your support!” Her voice had taken on a pleading edge.
“Too bad, the only person who could help you this time is your son Frost my beta, so you should go meet him.” I enjoyed seeing her squirm at the suggestion.
“No. Frost cannot know about my visits.” Panic flashed across her face.
“Don’t worry, I’ve kept that away from him, simply because you are too much of a disgrace for him to feel bad over. The cruelty was deliberate. I wanted her to understand exactly what I thought of her.
“Please, Alpha. I really need this; I promise this will be the last time. She moved even closer, her intentions clear in the way she leaned forward, the calculated sway of her hips.
“And what are you willing to offer?” I asked, though I already knew the answer.
“Anything,” she breathed, placing her hand on my desk, leaning toward me. “So as long as he doesn’t know.”
Disgust rose in my throat. “You might be Frost’s mother,” I said, standing to create distance between us. “But that doesn’t mean I’ll
take it easy on you.“,
“So as long as he doesn’t know…” she persisted, reaching for my arm.
“As long as he doesn’t know what?” Frost’s voice from the doorway froze us both.
I turned to see him standing there, his face a mask of shock quickly hardening to rage. Vesper tried to slip past him, but he moved
to block the door.
“You aren’t going anywhere, mother.” His voice was deadly calm.
“Get out of my way, Frost,” she demanded, her earlier vulnerability replaced by hostility.
I have not seen you in five years, and here you are.” There was pain beneath the anger in his eyes. “Why are you here?”
