Chapter 133
“Let’s go! Blanche just got out of surgery–if you upset her and something happens, Just wait and see what Eddy does to your precious Marshall family.” Someone
chimed in, echoing the threat.
Tears welled up in Ingrid’s eyes. She’d always been the center of attention in their social circle. Even now, with the Marshall family on the decline, no one dared cross. her as long as Eddy was around.
But today, it seemed everyone wanted her gone.
Stricken with rage and humiliation, Ingrid’s eyes reddened. She shot Blanche a venomous glare, but not a single word escaped her lips before she turned on her heel and fled.
Blanche turned her gaze to Jeannette, still sprawled on the floor.
She hadn’t wanted to remember the conversation between Loraine Brown and Eddy
that night. But seeing Jeannette now, those memories surged up, piercing her heart with fresh, raw pain.
Eddy had developed feelings for Jeannette–so deep that he couldn’t accept any
other woman.
Blanche’s eyes flicked over Jeannette: designer dress, sparkling jewelry, even her heels were from the same luxury brand. And like Blanche herself, she too had won Eddy’s love.
Blanche thought of her mother and of Rhoda, her heart twisting between sorrow and revulsion.
Jeannette didn’t deserve any of this. She didn’t even deserve to be here.
“And you,” Blanche’s voice rang sharp and clear. “I’d really like to know what makes you so special. First, my son wants to call you ‘Mom, and now, because of you, my husband and mother–in–law are practically tearing each other apart?”
Her accusation sent a murmur through the crowd.
Jeannette’s face went pale. Thinking of all the schemes Margaret was capable of, she shrank back in fear.
“Wait, Eddy and Loraine are fighting over this woman?” someone blurted out, bewildered. “Who even is she?”
“Have you been living under a rock? She’s Kelvin’s fiancée–and Blanche’s hau–sister,

remember?” another explained. “But why would Loraine and Eddy be fighting over a
sister–in–law?”
All eyes turned, scrutinizing Eddy and Jeannette with a mix of suspicion and
curiosity.
Suddenly, Blanche felt Eddy’s hand tighten around her waist. She looked up at him, eyes shining with unshed tears. “So is that it? You all want her, and I’m just supposed to step aside?”
Seeing how shattered she looked, Eddy gently wiped the tears from her cheek. His voice was soft, aching, “Don’t be silly. You’re imagining things. Healy’s just a kid–a little ice cream, some candy, and he can’t even tell right from wrong.”
“When he grows up, he’ll forget all this. Don’t take his words to heart.”
“What about you and your mother, then?” Blanche’s voice trembled, her gaze on Eddy’s worried face. “What did you mean, ‘accepting Jeannette but not any woman? ‘It’s fine to love, but not to be reckless‘–what were you two talking about? Did something happen between you and her that I should know about?”

“Oh my God, did Eddy cheat on her?” someone gasped, instantly clapping a hand over their mouth, shrinking back in alarm.
Eddy’s close friends stood silent, watching with solemn faces.
A crystalline tear slid down Blanche’s cheek as she pressed a trembling hand to her
heart.
She’d thought her heart was numb, broken beyond repair. But now, it ached all over again.
Eddy saw her face go pale, worry tightening his grip. She was still recovering–she couldn’t handle this kind of stress. He gathered her into his arms, voice trembling, “Honey, please, let me explain. You really misunderstood what happened that night.”
Blanche kept her eyes fixed on Eddy’s face, searching his deep, anxious gaze for any sign of guilt. She found none.
She needed to hear the rest.

the Marshall family. You really misunderstood Eddy and my mom!”
Blanche had had enough of their carefully coordinated lies. She cut straight to the heart of it. “Fine. Then what exactly does ‘developed feelings‘ mean?”
