A Cheater 60

Chapter 60

Blanche had already restored the surveillance footage to its original state before turning to look at Eddy.

She hadn’t driven herself here; in fact, her phone was switched off the entire time. Yet somehow, Eddy had managed to track her down so quickly. How was that possible?

Even if the hospital security had tipped him off, there was no way he

could have arrived this fast.

Could it be that she still had some kind of tracker on her?

Blanche recalled a conversation she once had with the Director-General. With technology so advanced, microchips no bigger than a few millimeters could be implanted under the skin, working on principles similar to a pacemaker-completely unobtrusive, undetectable in daily life.

Back then, the Director-General had admitted that some places were already conducting these inhumane experiments.

A chill swept through Blanche at the memory.

“I’m not feeling well. I need to see Dr. Turner,” she said quietly, rising from her chair. Her face had gone pale and a little ashen.

Eddy moved to steady her. “Sweetheart, I’ll go with you.”

Just then, his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen, his expression unreadable. “Honey, go ahead. Something’s come up at the office-I’ll catch up in a minute.”

Blanche nodded faintly and walked away.

As soon as she was gone, Eddy silenced the call, slipped down the corridor, and entered the OB-GYN’s office.

The doctor, seeing him enter, took the hint and quietly stepped out.

Inside, Jeannette was already waiting. The moment she saw Eddy, she latched onto his hand, her eyes brimming with tears. “Eddy, as soon as I heard she refused to adopt Lara, I just couldn’t control myself. I started having these horrible cramps…”

“I didn’t mean to bother you at a time like this, but my parents aren’t here yet. I’m all alone. I had no one else to call but you.”

“I’m sorry, Eddy.”

Jeannette was a master of playing vulnerable, and Eddy was always susceptible to her gentle, well-mannered act.

He placed his warm hand gently over her abdomen, rubbing it in slow circles. “Are you feeling any better now?”

A radiant smile broke through her tears, her cheeks blooming with a soft blush. She looked up at him shyly. “Much better.”

But the sweetness quickly faded, replaced by a look of distress. “If Lara can’t become the rightful Miss Simmons, there’s no hope for the baby I’m carrying. I can’t stand the thought of my child growing up with the stigma of being illegitimate.”

“I don’t want to have this baby anymore.”

“And I don’t want to leave Lara to suffer in that orphanage.”

“I want to bring her home, I-” Jeannette bit her lip, torn. “But I don’t want to make things harder for you, Eddy. I’ll take Lara and leave Novandria. We’ll go somewhere no one knows us, even if it’s the middle of nowhere.” “As long as you can visit us from time to time, I’ll be content.”

Eddy cupped her delicate face in his hands, gently wiping away the tears that slipped from her reddened eyes. “Don’t be silly. Lara is my daughter-she means the world to me. I’ll never let her be cast aside or

talked about behind her back.”

“And you are absolutely not to do anything to harm this baby. That could seriously hurt your health. I’ve already arranged for a world-renowned obstetrician to look after you and the baby until you deliver.”

Jeannette buried her face in Eddy’s chest, soaking up his warmth. “You’re too good to me-and to our child, Eddy.”

“I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Eddy was usually cold and distant, but whenever she was pregnant he became so gentle, almost tender.

As the head of the Simmons family, he’d watched other powerful families grow bigger with each new child. Surely, he worried about his own

family’s future too.

She could give him a child, solve his most pressing problem. Of course he would treat her well.

During these months, no matter how unreasonable she became, he always gave in to her every whim.

‘But how will you ever persuade Blanche to adopt Lara?” Jeannette frowned, worry creeping back into her eyes.

‘Don’t worry,” Eddy assured her. “Lara was born on the anniversary of Blanche’s daughter’s death. Blanche has always longed to have another child, convinced that the daughter she lost would one day come back to her. Lara is that child-she’s come back to find her mother.”
