Chapter 7
Hearing that familiar voice, I couldn’t help but think helplessly: “Here she goes again. I’m standing right here, this big of
a person, and she can’t even see me. She only has eyes for Harvey.”
Hearing my thoughts, Harvey pressed his fist against his lips, but his smile still couldn’t help showing through.
Seeing my unhappy expression, he turned to look at Ruby outside.
Harvey said, “Didn’t I tell you all not to come to our house anymore?”
Hearing his words, Ruby’s eyes immediately reddened, and tears started falling.
She said, “Harvey, what did I do wrong? Why are you treating me like this? Jackson just told me not to go to his house anymore either. Is it because your wives don’t like me, so…”
She trailed off here, looking up at me with pitiful eyes.
I couldn’t help thinking: “Please, how could I possibly like a woman who’s trying to seduce my husband?”
Hearing my inner voice, Harvey immediately became serious.

He said, “If there’s nothing else, you should go back. Don’t be so intimate with me anymore. We’re not blood–related, and acting this way will cause misunderstandings.”
Seeing Harvey’s cold demeanor, Ruby was truly hurt this time.
With tears streaming down her face, she looked at Harvey in disbelief: “Harvey, are you really going to abandon me— someone who grew up with you–just because of this woman? You promised my parents you’d take good care of me. And do you even know what kind of person this Violet woman really is?”
At this point, Ruby pointed her finger fiercely at me.
Hearing her words, I pretended to anxiously tug at Harvey’s
arm.
I said, “Harvey, please believe me. I absolutely haven’t done anything to betray you.”
Then I thought to myself: “What should I do? Harvey likes his sister Ruby so much–will he not believe me?”
Watching my earnest performance, Harvey lowered his head and smiled slightly.
Then, under my “threatening” gaze, he finally sighed and decided to play along.
When he looked up again, Harvey frowned at Ruby.

He said, “What do you mean by that? How has Violet wronged me in any way? I’ve told you before–stop trying to fool me with that mind–reading trick. Don’t I know what kind of person Violet is? Even if she really is like you say, wanting me to die, I’d accept it. I’ll only love her for the rest of my life.”
Watching Harvey’s devoted, deeply–in–love act, I was shaking all over trying to hold back my laughter.
Ruby’s face turned ashen with anger.
But she still wouldn’t give up: “I know what I’m saying is hard to believe, but I’m really not lying to you. We grew up together–I just want what’s best for you. She’s hiding behind you now, but she’s still thinking about another man in her heart.”
However, Harvey didn’t get angry as she expected. Instead, he lovingly took my hand: “Even if she’s thinking about another man, it doesn’t matter, as long as she’s willing to stay by my
side.”
At this point, I couldn’t hold back and pinched him hard on his
lower back.
While I did want to put on an act, I hadn’t expected Harvey to go
this far.
That line was truly devastating.

Ruby’s face was now pale, and she looked at Harvey with a complex expression–her eyes didn’t show jealousy, but rather looked at him like he was a fool.
This wasn’t at all the look someone should have when gazing at
their beloved.
This made me think of how our previous life had ended.
