Chapter II
Chapter 11
Maybe it was revenge. Maybe it was justice.
Either way, the person who had tormented Elena for years was about to pay.
Three days later, the police called me in for questioning.
“Have you been extorted or had your personal safety threatened recently?” one of the officers asked, his gaze sharp.
I frowned, shaking my head. “No. Not that I know of.”
They exchanged glances before continuing. “Have you noticed anything unusual? Anyone suspicious hanging around?”
I hesitated. My social circle was small- colleagues, industry contacts. I hadn’t been in Blue Moon Pack long enough to make enemies. Or so I thought.
Then they showed me the surveillance footage.

The grainy black and white video played on a screen. Two figures loitered near my house over the past week. One of them, just this morning, had slipped something into the fresh milk usually ordered,
“A hallucinogen,” the officer explained, “You’re lucky you didn’t drink it,”
A chill crawled up my spine. “I was in a rush today” I murmured. “Didn’t pick up the milk.”
They replayed the footage, zooming in on the taller figure. My breath hitched,
Alpha Kendrick,
The police took me to see him. When I entered the room, he was already seated, hands cuffed, eyes duller than I had ever seen them.
I sat across from him, my heart pounding, “You poisoned me?” My voice trembled with
disbelief.
His lips curved into a bitter smile, “Felicia, am I really so unbearable to you?”

The weight of his words pressed down on me, suffocating. “Why were you near my house, Kendrick? Why didn’t you come to me first?”
His gaze darkened. “I arrived last week. I found you then. But do you know why I didn’t approach you?”
I swallowed, unease settling in my stomach.
He exhaled sharply. “The one who hurt Elena… he couldn’t go back to the Red River Pack to take her, so he came for you instead.”
My breath hitched. Memories flickered- combat tournaments, fleeting encounters. I had never imagined our paths would cross like this again.
“He knows who you are, Felicia. He knows you’re connected to me,” Kendrick continued, his voice rough. His hands trembled slightly against the cuffs.
Realization crashed over me. “You followed him. You were trying to protect me.”
Kendrick didn’t answer right away. He just

stared at me, his expression unreadable.
“That day… what you said… you didn’t want me to go through what Elena did?” My voice barely rose above a whisper.
Still, no response. The officers led him away to finalize the legal process before sending him back to the Werewolf Council for sentencing.
Before leaving, he pressed a folded envelope into my hand.
Inside was an old photo–our graduation day. A moment frozen in time, back when I had scribbled in my yearbook: Felicia will marry Kendrick, a couple for life.
On the back, in his familiar handwriting, were just a few words:
I owe you. I hope to repay it.
A dull ache settled in my chest, lingering long after he was gone.

A year later, I returned to the Moon Eclipse Pack and took my father’s place as Alpha.
The Red River Pack, weakened by internal strife, had no choice but to merge with ours- something made possible by my early financial investments. Kendrick had been imprisoned, and without him, his pack crumbled.
Three years passed.
On the day of his release, I was there, waiting.
I drove him back to the house we had once
shared for seven years. It was just as he left it—
clean, untouched, maintained by hired workers.
But there was no trace of me. Not anymore.
Following tradition, I set out a brazier to ward
off evil spirits. The smell of burning herbs filled the air. “Elena is doing well,” I told him. “I helped her find a job in another wolf pack.
She’s safe.”
Kendrick didn’t respond.
I pulled something from my pocket–his old letter, the one with our graduation photo, I

handed it back. “Alpha Kendrick,” I said softly, “I hope you live a good life.”
His eyes didn’t meet mine. They were locked on my left hand.
On the wedding ring I was wearing.
“Are you married?”
I had just turned to leave when Alpha Kendrick finally spoke. His voice was quiet, almost
hesitant.
I paused, my fingers absently turning the ring on my finger. “Yes.”
His gaze lingered.
“We’re fated mates,” I continued, my tone even. “A perfect match. He loves me very much… and I love him too.”
The words felt strangely familiar, an echo of the past. I remembered when Elena had told me the same thing–that she had found her mate, that she was getting married,

Kendrick was silent for a long moment before he finally said, “I wish you happiness.”
Something in his voice made my chest tighten, but I didn’t waver.
Then, after what felt like forever, he spoke again, his words soft, tinged with something almost regretful.
“If I hadn’t insisted on finding Elena back then… do you think things would’ve been different for us?”
My fingers stilled against my ring.
I didn’t answer. Because I didn’t know.
For years, I had been nothing more than a bystander in this story. A passive observer while Kendrick made all the decisions. Maybe, in another version of events, things would have
been different. But that wasn’t the path we had taken.
“Alpha Kendrick,” I said quietly, “I’m actually glad you brought this up.”

“Otherwise,” I admitted, exhaling slowly, “it
would’ve been harder to end things if we had actually gotten married.”
I wanted to end things gracefully. And
somehow, we did.
Kendrick didn’t say anything after that. Whatever words he had been holding onto, whatever thoughts had lingered, he let them fade into the silence between us.
Finally, he murmured, “I wish you happiness.”
I met his gaze one last time, steady and sure.
“Yes,” I said. “I will be happy.”
Then I turned and walked away.
The End.

moment when I was supposed to be pledging my eternal love to my childhood sweetheart, Alpha Derick, his beta–Rebecca Guzman— waltzed in.
Pregnant.
A hush fell over the hall.
Derick, my fated mate, the boy I’d adored since childhood, barely flinched. Instead, he reached out and supported her, like it was her wedding, like she was the one in the wedding dress.
Then, without a trace of guilt as he announced, “I know I can’t officially marry Beta Rebecca, but I promised her a wedding. Our pup deserves a complete family.”
“From today on,she will also be my Luna. You
must love the pup in her belly as if it were your
own.”
A chill ran down my spine.

Our Wedding
Halfway through my wedding, just as I was about to pledge eternal love to my childhood sweetheart, Alpha Derick, the doors swung open, and his beta–Rebecca Guzman–waltzed in.
Pregnant.
The hall went silent, every guest holding their breath as if the scene would disappear if no one acknowledged it.
Derick, my fated mate–the boy I’d loved for as long as I could remember–barely reacted. Instead, he stepped forward and steadied her, his hands gentle, his expression soft. It felt like I was watching someone else’s wedding–her
wedding.
Then, without the faintest trace of shame, he said, “I know I can’t officially marry Beta Rebecca, but I promised her a wedding. Our

pup deserves a complete family.”
As if that wasn’t enough, he added, “From today on, she will also be my Luna. You must love the pup in her belly as if it were your own.”
A chill raced down my spine.
The hall erupted into whispers, the weight of their judgment pressing down on me. My parents looked ready to shift and tear Derick apart, while his parents hurriedly tried to push me back toward the altar, desperate to salvage the ceremony.
“Clarissa, be reasonable,” Derick’s mother hissed under her breath. “For the good of both Packs. Finish the ceremony.”
The good of both Packs? Was she serious?
I turned to Alpha Derick, my so–called soulmate, and then to Rebecca, who was now cradling her stomach as if she held the crown jewels. The smug triumph radiating off her made my wolf, Mira, growl.
We should shred her face, Mira snarled. Right

I was tempted. Oh, I was tempted. But it wasn’t worth it.
Instead, I forced a breath, plastered on a smile, and ripped the corsage from my chest. I hurled it straight at Rebecca.
“Congratulations on your pregnancy, Rebecca. Truly,” I said, my voice syrupy with mock sweetness. Then I turned to Derick. “A wedding for three? How tasteless. I’ll step back. Let her be the bride today.”
The hall froze, every pair of eyes locked on me.
I clapped–slow and deliberate.
“Well? What are you all waiting for? Someone play the wedding march again! Let’s not let the decorations go to waste.”
Derick’s face darkened. “Clarissa, today is our big day, and you have to make a scene?”
I laughed, sharp and bitter. “A scene? You paraded your pregnant mistress into my

wedding and declared her Luna, and I’m the one making a scene?”
Before anyone could stop me, I grabbed the microphone from the stunned MC. “Everyone, thank you so much for coming! There’s been a small change of plans. Don’t worry—the wedding’s still happening. Just with a different bride.”
The silence was suffocating. Derick’s parents looked like they wanted to vanish into thin air.
“And since the happy couple is getting married because of a pregnancy,” I added, smiling brightly at Rebecca, “let’s send them our
warmest congratulations.”
No one dared to move.
With that, I turned on my heel and marched to
my parents.
“Dad, Mom, let’s go home,” I said, my voice steady despite the chaos swirling in my chest.
Their hands wrapped around mine, warm and grounding. My father, his expression

unreadable, stood tall and addressed the crowd. “We appreciate your attendance. The gift money has been returned. There will be another party tonight. Drinks are on me.”
My heart clenched as I watched him bow to the guests. My father, a proud Alpha who had never bowed to anyone, swallowed his pride for me today.
I had given everything to Derick. At eighteen, on the night of my first shift, the moment I scented lemon and pine, I knew he was my mate.
From that night on, we were inseparable. The golden couple. The perfect pair.
Well, almost perfect. My parents had always warned me about him. “Clarissa, an Alpha should cherish his mate,” they’d say. “Watch how he treats you.”
But I hadn’t listened. I had fought for him, argued for him, believed in him.
When they told me he wasn’t the right man, I called them unfair. When they said he wasn’t worthy, I ignored them.

I thought they were blinded by bias.
But they had seen the truth long before I did.
Alpha Derick had never cherished me. Never cared about our bond.
For fifteen years, I endured his distance, his indifference, his coldness. I watched him flirt with other women, always making excuses for his behavior.
I convinced myself that if I just held on a little longer, he’d finally see my worth.
But instead, he humiliated me in front of my family, my friends–everyone I knew.
Right at the altar.
With her by his side.
Pregnant,
And smug.
Reality didn’t just slap me in the face; it

punched me in the gut.
And finally, I saw the truth:
Alpha Derick was never worthy of my love.
