The crystal chandelier cast sharp shadows across Giovani’s brow. His gaze, cold as ice, locked onto Enoch, as though he were staring at a lifeless corpse instead of a living man.
Under her intense gaze, Enoch felt a chill crawl from his feet to his head, freezing him in place and leaving him drenched in cold sweat.
He forced himself to endure the discomfort and stammered, “M–Mr. Campbell.” But before he could finish, Giovani’s gaze shifted abruptly, cutting him off.
Giovani had already turned his attention to Camila. With his long strides, he crossed the room in just a few steps and naturally took her hand in his.
Her flawless skin bore a glaring red burn mark from the scalding oatmeal, with blisters forming on the surface.
Giovani frowned deeply and led Camila to the sofa, helping her sit down. Just then, Lindsey, Keira, and Hazel emerged from another room.
The moment Lindsey saw the burn on Camila’s arm, her eyes reddened with distress. “What happened here?”
Keira’s eyes immediately welled up. Ever since Camila had affectionately called her “Mom,” she had treated the young woman like her own daughter, cherishing her dearly.
On ordinary days, even a sneeze or a cough from Camila would make Keira worry about her frail health. Now, seeing her burned like this, Keira was frantic and rushed to fetch the first aid kit.
Hazel, meanwhile, noticed Lucy and exclaimed in surprise, “Lucy, what brings you here?”
Her gaze then swept over the mess on the floor and the disheveled state of Enoch and Abigail. “What happened here?” she asked again, her tone sharp.
Lucy recounted the events in detail, leaving nothing out. When Hazel finished listening, her eyes filled with disdain as she glared at Enoch and Abigail.
Lindsey, furious, slammed her cane against the floor with a sharp crack that echoed through the silent living room. “How dare you harm my grandson’s wife in my house? The two of you are completely out of line!”
Giovani carefully rested Camila’s hand on his lap, took the first aid kit from Keira, and started treating the burn. His movements were incredibly gentle as he asked softly, “Does it hurt?”
Camila’s gaze remained fixed on him as she softly shook her head.
A flicker of pain crossed Giovani’s eyes, and his hands became even tenderer as he applied the ointment.
For a moment, the entire living room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. Lindsey, Keira, Hazel, and Lucy all had their eyes on Camila.
Meanwhile, Enoch and Abigail, completely ignored, felt as though every passing second was a torment in hell.
Giovani spent a full ten minutes treating the burn. When he finally closed the medical kit, his gaze turned icy, sweeping over Enoch and Abigail. “You’d better give me a damn good explanation.” His voice, low and dangerous, carried the weight of an impending storm.
Though his voice wasn’t loud, the authority in it was undeniable, leaving no room for defiance.
Enoch clenched his teeth, his face twitching with barely contained anger. “Mr. Campbell, we didn’t come here to stir up trouble. We came for our son, William.
“But then we saw her, the one who ruined our daughter’s life. So yes, we lost our temper and hit her. She deserved it.” Abigail, disheveled and desperate, added, “Mr. Campbell, this woman is nothing but trouble! Five years ago, she was barely eighteen and had already tried to kill my daughter in cold blood.
“And now, five years later, she’s using some dirty tricks to seduce you. You can’t seriously believe her lies!”
“Exactly!” Enoch chimed in, his tone sharp and cutting. “We hit her to avenge our daughter and to protect you. Imagine the scandal if people found out the famous heir in Northeville was involved with a convict. You wouldn’t want that, would you?” Enoch said.
His final words carried an unmistakable threat, as though he was warning that if Giovani insisted on standing by Camila, he would quickly spread the gossip about Giovani’s association with a convict throughout high society.
Yet, he completely misjudged Giovani’s character. To keep women at arm’s length, Giovani had let rumors about his sexual dysfunction circulate, so his reputation was the least of his concerns. No one could hold any leverage over him.
A slow, mocking smile played at the corners of Giovani’s lips, tinged with disdain. His gaze toward Enoch and Abigail grew colder and more merciless, like the icy chill of a winter night.
“I’ve been so focused on the Eastville project lately, I almost forgot about the Connor Group, Giovani said slowly.

The instant those words left his mouth, Enoch and Abigail froze. Their arrogance evaporated, as though they had been splashed with ice–cold water.
Enoch instinctively clenched his fists, utterly unprepared for Giovani’s statement. It was a heavy warning. “W–What do you mean?” he stammered nervously.
Ignoring their panic, Giovani calmly pulled out his phone from his pocket and dialed Turner. His voice, deep and magnetic, struck like a hammer against their hearts. “Launch a full–scale attack on Connor Group.”
Enoch’s and Abigail’s eyes widened in shock as they stared at Giovani in disbelief.
They didn’t expect that Giovani wouldn’t hesitate to declare war on the Connor Group.
Connor Group, the top player in Sancho’s business world, had deep roots and a vast empire. It wasn’t something easily shaken.
What Giovani said now sounded as casual as discussing the weather, yet his tone carried an undeniable authority that left Enoch and Abigail no choice but to believe him.
Besides, Enoch had spent decades navigating the business world and knew the upper–class circles of Laystoland like the back of his hand.
The Campbell family, as Northeville’s top–tier aristocratic household, had deep roots and extensive connections. If Giovani wanted to target Connor Group, it wouldn’t be difficult.
Enoch’s face turned ashen, his eyes filled with despair. “Mr. Campbell, we were just trying to protect our daughter! How could you be so unreasonable? Is it really worth waging a business war against the Connor Group for a woman?”
Giovani repeated the phrase with a meaningful tone, “Protect your daughter?”
He savored those words, his expression growing increasingly enigmatic. “If you truly care about your daughter, then you should find the real culprit from back then, instead of falsely accusing Camila.”
Both Enoch and Abigail froze, their voices overlapping as they asked, “What do you mean by that?”
Leaning back against the sofa, Giovani exuded a relaxed yet refined air, but his voice was cold and decisive. “Your daughter‘ s awake. Why don’t you go ask her yourself?”
The sudden news hit them like a bolt of lightning, leaving Enoch and Abigail momentarily speechless.
But in the next second, Giovani added, “However, it seems your daughter has been hidden away by your precious son. If you want the truth, you’ll need to visit the detention center and ask your son.”
Silence fell over Enoch and Abigail. If Giovani was telling the truth, then it meant they had been wrong about Camila all this time.
Yet, they were unwilling to accept that they had wronged her. If Camila wasn’t the real culprit and someone else was, it meant they sought revenge on the wrong person, allowing the true perpetrator to roam free for five years.
‘No, this can’t be true!‘ Abigail thought. She shook her head frantically, her eyes red as she glared at Camila. “It has to be you! You’re the culprit!”
Giovani narrowed his eyes, a menacing glint flashing within them. “I’ll give you one day. By tomorrow, you’d better bow in front of Camila, begging for forgiveness.
“If I’m satisfied, the Connor Group stays. If not, it won’t survive.” He cast a cold glance at Enoch and Abigail before uttering,” Show them out.”
Enoch and Abigail stumbled out of the Campbell residence, their steps unsteady, as if they had aged ten years in an instant. After treating their injuries at the hospital, they drove straight to the detention center.
