The venue wasn’t far–just two kilometers away-
but tonight felt like a giant leap from who I was two years ago.
The mansion loomed ahead, ancient and sprawling.
Built by our ancestors, it still stood strong–a symbol of power and unity.
Warm lights spilled out from the windows. Laughter echoed.
Inside, the ballroom already hummed with music and countless voices. Alphas and Betas mingled. Families chatted. Warriors stood proudly in packs.
“This is… crowded,” Kiya said beside me.
“Stay close,” Kieran warned his mate.
I smirked. “Where would she even go?”

“I’ll tie her up if she tries.” He leaned in and added something low.
With my heightened hearing, I caught every word.
Ugh. I did not need to hear *that* about my brother.
Trying to preserve what was left of my sanity, I moved closer to Mom.
“”The Winter Moon Pack has arrived!”
The announcer’s voice rang through the hall.
We walked in together, heads turning as whispers followed us. This time, I held my chin high. I wasn’t ashamed anymore. I wasn’t the broken girl hiding in the shadows.
I smiled gently and met each gaze.
But then–I saw him.

In the middle of that crowded hall.
His face sharp with the same arrogance. His eyes locked onto me like I was a ghost, not a living, breathing woman who had survived everything he’d thrown at her.
My ex–mate.

Kyle’s POV
“You have to attend the event tonight,” my father insisted, his voice firm. “Even if there’s no stable alliance, we can’t miss this chance.”
I heard my mother softly lament, “What did we do wrong to be in such a situation? Our son lost his true mate after the rejection, and now, even after taking the throne, his position isn’t stable.”
My father shook his head.

“We have to build alliances with other packs; without them, we’re vulnerable. The attacks over the years have weakened us and affected our standing. If we fall, our clan could face its end.”
Mom gasped. “But there are packs without high ranks that survive. How could our clan face such danger?”
“Mom, Dad’s right,” I replied. “We’ve held a powerful spot for so long, and now we have many enemies. If we lose our position, they’ll attack.”
Mom looked shocked and speechless.
Leading the pack these past two years has been tough. I’ve tried to stabilize everything, but my strength alone isn’t enough.
Our troubles began when Irina left. Thinking of her made my heart ache.
She was my sweet, kind mate until our bond

broke after the rejection.

If I could find her, maybe we could restore what
we lost. But two years, and not a trace of her.

I still remember how she looked at me with those accusing, tear–filled eyes.
It’s haunted me every night since.
I had planned to talk to her about Jenika, but she found us together before I could.
I ran to explain, but she disappeared before I could.
Determined, I left my parents to make arrangements.
Many packs would attend tonight’s event, including the elusive Black Cedar and Winter Moon Packs. This was my chance to strengthen alliances.

As I got ready, Jenika entered wearing a glittery black dress. Her seductive smile spread across her face.
“Ready?” I asked.

“Luna said to make you wait,” she teased, twirling in her dress. “How do I look?”
“Good,” I nodded, trying to keep it professional.
She pouted, placing a hand on my chest. “You’re not romantic anymore, Kyle. We were so close, what changed?”
I pushed her hand away gently. “It’s not the time for this. We need to represent our pack responsibly. We can’t be late.”
She sighed. “Fine. For the pack’s reputation, I’ll listen.”
I grabbed my car keys, and we set off. A few pack members joined us to demonstrate unity

The venue was a luxurious mansion, exclusively decorated for tonight.
“Wow, this is stunning!” Nora exclaimed, eyes wide.
“Let’s go inside,” I ordered, as we walked in with the others trailing behind.
Being Alpha for two years, I’d met a few leaders before.
Some faces in the crowd were familiar.
Soon, the announcer introduced the Winter Moon Pack.
“Isn’t that the second–best pack?” Jenika remarked.
I followed her gaze, curious but then stunned.

A face I knew too well appeared, the face that haunted my dreams.
Our eyes met, and I was breathless. Her eyes, those mesmerizing purple orbs, seemed to pierce my soul.
”
She looked different–her aura, demeanor, everything transformed.
“Is that Irina?” Jenika gasped. “She’s with the Winter Moon Pack now?”

The pack mingled, and Irina glanced away like she didn’t know us.
“How did her eyes change color?” Nora wondered aloud.
“Nora, not now,” Casper scolded softly.
Jenika seemed worried. “I didn’t expect Irina to
join the Winter Moon Pack. If she does something wrong, they’ll blame us.”

That was my fear too. How did a sweet girl end up with such a mysterious pack?
“I should talk to her,” Jenika said. “Mom and dad
have been worried.”
I nodded. Jenika and Nora approached Irina, who stood with another woman. I stayed back but listened in.
“Irina? Sis is that you? I’m so happy to see you,” Jenika beamed.
Irina turned, her beautiful eyes cold and seductive.
“Who’s your sister?” Her voice was harsh, void of the sweetness I remembered.
“Irina, why are you like this?” Jenika pleaded. “We’ve been searching for you. Don’t you remember us?”
Irina let out a laugh devoid of warmth. “How

could I forget what you did? You just couldn’t wait to remind me, could you?”
I clenched my fists, struggling to comprehend her transformation.

Where was the sweet girl I once knew?
How could she change so much?
“Please come back,” Jenika urged desperately. “Mom and dad worry. Isn’t it time to return home?”
“Home?” Irina’s laugh was icy. “That place wasn’t my home. Your acting hasn’t changed. You’ve achieved your goal. Satisfied?”
Confusion filled Jenika’s voice.
“What do you mean?” Her voice broke as people began to notice their conversation.
“Cut the act,” Irina snapped. “I’m not interested in Chapter 6

your drama anymore.”

Nora, indignant, jumped in.
“Irina, how can you humiliate your sister? She’s worried! You’re trash for running away and shaming us-”
But before Nora could continue, a sharp slap echoed through the hall.
Nora fell, her cheek red and swollen.
I was shocked. Irina, who never shifted into a wolf, somehow had the strength to hit a werewolf like that?
How did she become so strong?
