Chapter 22
Leon was admitted to the hospital with a high fever of forty degrees. If he had waited any longer, he would have been burned alive.
The doctor’s actions in treating the wound were not gentle, causing Leon to involuntarily groan. He stayed in the hos- pital for many days.
Leon thought that he needed to do something to win back Eloise’s heart. He thought of the photo he had torn up.
Maybe if he gave Eloise a gift that reminded her of her mother, she would forgive herself.
So Leon went to find Grayson, and through threats and bribes, he finally obtained a pocket watch. On the pocket watch was a photo of Eloise’s mother.
Eloise no longer had any mementos of her mother, but that didn’t mean her father didn’t have any.
Leon looked at the pocket watch in his hand, and in the old photograph, he could still see the beauty of Eloise’s moth- er. Eloise and her mother looked almost identical.
He brought the pocket watch with him, ready to visit the Bronner family again, but this time he didn’t even make it up the mountain before being stopped.
Leon wanted to force his way through, but the bodyguard raised his fist. The wound on his back still ached faintly, so he had to give up.
So he waited at the foot of the mountain day after day.

Eloise’s mother’s memorial day was approaching, and she planned to take Zackery to visit her.
They were driving down the mountain. Just as they were about to reach the foot of the mountain, the brakes suddenly failed. Zackery frantically pressed the brake pedal, but there was no response.
At the moment of impact, Zackery leaned over to protect Eloise, holding her tightly in his arms. The shattered glass rained down on them, cutting Zackery’s skin in multiple places, causing blood to flow instantly.
Zackery firmly protected Eloise, not letting her suffer any harm. It wasn’t until the vehicle no longer responded that he asked in a hoarse voice, “Elle, are you hurt?”
The blood slipped from Zackery’s head onto Eloise’s hand, warm.
Eloise’s tears welled up instantly as she held Zackery, who had collapsed onto her, her voice choked with emotion.
“Zackery, Zackery, wake up!”

Chapter 2L
Eloise dragged herself to open the car door, then exerted great effort to pull Zackery out. Before they could get far, the vehicle exploded with a loud bang, followed by a blaze of fire.
Feeling the burning sensation of the fire, Eloise was terrified for a moment. This was the closest she had ever been to
death.
Not far away, Leon ran over and looked at Eloise with a worried expression. “Elle, are you okay?”
Eloise ignored him, tears dripping onto Zackery’s face.
Leon felt a pang of heartache. He couldn’t stand seeing Eloise cry. In the end, amidst Eloise’s sobs, he gritted his teeth and took Zackery to the hospital.
Eloise paced back and forth outside the operating room, wearing a worried expression on her face.
Zackery had just completely shielded her underneath him, ensuring she didn’t suffer any harm, but Zackery himself was seriously injured.
It has been five hours already, and he has not come out of the operating room yet.
Eloise had gone from pacing to standing still in place, waiting.
Not sure how long she had been standing there, Eloise felt a sudden sway in her body. Just as she was about to reach out to the wall for support, she was steadied by the person behind her.
Leon looked at the haggard Eloise in front of him with great heartache, unable to express the feeling in his heart.
The woman I loved was feeling sad for another man at the moment, but I couldn’t do anything about it.
“Have some food, Elle.”
Eloise pulled her arm back and stood at a distance from Leon, looking at him warily.
Leon couldn’t stand the way Eloise looked at him, his heart feeling sour and his throat as if something was blocking it.
He reached out to Eloise, “Elle…”
Eloise turned around to face away from him, her voice hoarse, “Don’t bother me.”
Leon had said this to Eloise many times after Aurelie came back, but this was the first time Eloise had said it to Leon. She couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart.
But Leon slowly took out the pocket watch from his pocket and walked over to hand it to Eloise.
Eloise was getting more and more irritated at the moment, reaching out to knock things in front of her. But when she saw the photo inside the pocket watch, she instantly froze.
This was mom…
